Buying engine (title question)
I'm looking for a bare ls block and most of the guys that have it, don't have papers for it. Now when you buy an engine from someone, what type of papers are we talking about here? Receipts or the title? All the people that i've talked to, their engine that they're selling is legit but just don't have the papers for it. I would buy the engine without papers but I want to have a piece of mind knowing that if i get my engine checked by cops I can at least show them something.
PS. This only applies to people selling LEGIT engine but without papers.

I don't know of any cops that would accept that. You need a bill of sale with info to trace it back to the guy you bought it from. That way if it is stolen, you're not the one going to jail...
Out of all the things I have been worrying about since I started my swap, and I have been worrying lots, this is one thing I havent worried about. I think that so long as you have a bill of sale you should be fine.

Yeah I didn't care about it anyway but now they have a anti-auto-theft unit (NJ) and they give free inspection to all the cars. I would just hate getting pulled over and have my car impounded on nice night cruisin the streetz becuz i anit have a receipt.
I thought when you buy an engine, you get title and receipt with it.
I like the idea about shaving the code and saying that it's a race block. but that's more a reason for cops to run ur ****.

You do realize that if the block is stolen, and you get caught, the best thing that will happen is they only take the motor. I've seen an engine bay after a confiscated motor was taken out by the police... it's not pretty.

to answer the intial question, get a recipet or a bill of sale from the previous owner. I bought my motor from a junkyard and i just have a reciept with the VIN printed on it. Good enough for me
