It is possible but it would be just easier just to swap to a shorter final drive like the JDM type R. Changing gears can get complicated because of the spacing and specs of diff trannies. Basically if you are gonna build a nice tranny for an all motor application, get a ring and pinion from a JDM Type R and get yourself a nice DIFF. It will be a nice combo for the street and track.

thats a hard question to answer. everyones setup is different. fd is good ls for turbo jdm for all motor. gears kinda depend on what setup/power band you have and what speeds you want to be fast at

i would say type R tranny with an LSD...
you can have a TON of power...but if you can't get it to the ground...
useless.

I'm gonna build me one of these days for my N/A car this tranny:
TypeR 1-3 gears
GSR 4th and 5th
ATS 4.929 FD
Kaaz 1.5way LSD, which I already have.

is it a costly mod to make a custom trans? That would seem perfect for me since i do like hard accelerating but i hate the high-pitch whines on the freeway.

I would probably start with an SI tranny, put in a jdm 4.7 fd, LS 5th gear, and a 1.5 way LSD. This is for auto x, and road racing. For drag racing, if you plan on raising rev limit, I would probably use the stock GS-R tranny with an LSD.
