Default Belt squeal

This is specific to my alternator. I've always gotten gates belts for this because I can walk in to the nearest Napa and get one....but they always squeal.

The one that came with my GSR swap is thicker...is the Honda on the only one to get, or anybody that's had good luck with these belts I like to hear from. Ordering from Honda in my area takes a lot of time, and expensive. Might be worth it, but it's a pain.

Thanks

I'll check, thanks.

The one that came on the b18c is a "pitwork". It's heavier, but I had to use my A1 HB so I could keep my power steering. I just used the gates from the A1. Always squealed, still does.

They "squeal" because there's not enough tension on the belt so it slips. I have never had a issue with gates or any other belt, hell I use a gates belt for my supercharger and it works fine. Just make sure its on TIGHT!

Wrong, mine are perfectly adjusted.

I've even tried over tightening the belt. They still squeal. I've had this car 8 years. I've gotten gates belts and tried everything.... looking for a different brand.

The pitwork that was on this engine, which now won't fit, is a thicker, heavier belt. If Honda changed the belt size after the A1 HB, there could be a reason they did that.

I bet none of your engines have an A1 HB pulley.

...and it only squeals at startup. One time, when I first start the car.

I think you may have to check your tension cause iv never heard of Gates brand slipping, they make great belts and most people using superchargers use these belts with no issues, you have cold start screech which is most commonly caused by a loose or worn out belt..

You can look into the Good year Gator back belts those are good belts!

Believe me iv been building these engines since 2006~ I have had a A1 LS pulley multiple times using all brands you can imagine as well as a GSR pulley as well as a B20 pulley! the largest of them all!. I now use a Fluidmaper. Its common to have belt slip using a SC but not on a stock engine.. All these size pulleys were used when I had a few JRSC setups, so using the larger LS and B20 pulleys was one way to increase boost PSI from the supercharger.

And why are you using a A1 pulley didnt you recently swap in a B18c swap? why arent you using the correct pulley!

I wanted to keep my OEM power steering which is a V-belt. Saved me from a lot of problems.

Like I said, I've even over thightened them a little. That works only temporarily (then they stretch quickly), and I don't want to stress the ALT bearings.

The one that came on this engine with the other HB was a good bit thicker.

Gates does make an alternator belt in their"racing" series that I would try, but I can't get it locally. Napa carries the Bando and one in their brand. I may try that one. AZone has a Continental brand. That is tempting...I used to have their tires on my motorcycles, very good, but I've heard nothing about how they are now.

Probably the Napa brand, in stock, $30.

Maybe you should start running e85? It'll help the belts squeel less.

NA he needs Q16 VP Fuel!

I once seen this show where a guy had a hot rod with 4 engines with blowers on top and had custom Carbon fiber belts for the blowers, said they were super strong and durable that's what we all need!
