Why would you want to rev your car that high. If you lean out then kiss your motor goodbye I've never understood the redline ***** mantality "im going to rev my car as high as possible bc i can" Blown motors and dead cars is all this leads to

Modify your car and get a ecu (hondata s200's are great):
1.) Dyno your car to view its powerband
2.) Tune the motor to perform at it's best according to the cams and other mods you're running (stock B17 produces a peak hp of ~160 @ 7600 rpm)
3.) Don't rev past the peak rev range unless your in 5th topping out and your motor won't hate you

Don't be an *** and rev your car to 9.5 grand if you don't make power past 8 it's pointless. And as stated before, please forget about 11500 rpm revs. You aren't trying to build the Spoon Sports Itr, just restoring a gsr

as long your motor fully built right u should'nt worry about revin pass 9k.do your research.look at the honda racing engines.if honda can produces a 1.5liter v12 engine for a experimental now into production.i don't see 9.5 revs would be an issue.

2.4 litres
Configuration V8 naturally aspirated
Vee angle 90 degrees
Maximum power Over 700 bhp
Maximum revs Over 19,000 rpm

Thats a [freak]ing formula 1 race engine you're describing. They use technology way superior to a street car (or any other race car for that matter) in order to rev up to not 19000 rpm but 24000 rpm. That was officially the stupidest comparison I've ever seen in my life. Like i said earlier, if your car makes it's peak power at 8k there's no reason to rev past that especially if your car isnt built to withstand the stress of rpms that high.

I've been through this dilemma and I decided to rebuild my B17 from the ground up, although it's more like a b19 now

Man, I had a 93 GSR, type r header, I/E, test pipe, MSD 6AL, Cap and ext. coil, and no a/c or p.s. and gutted, and that car killed all other B series in my area, that were all motor, my bud had a 92 GSR white and i had 93 Aztec Green, and we went 4 wide, us 2 and 2 other b18c GSR's obd 1 and me and my bud pulled both GSR's by 3-4 cars, they weren't nothing, B17's kill! And like some know, the tranny is the best cable tranny, ratios I think are bout same as 97 down type R.
Keep it!!

By far one of the best engines I ever had(B17A1).My last DB2 with the original B17A1 and YS1 cable trani. with 270k still ran mid 14's in the 1/4 mile and that car only saw a trailer when I broke an axle coming out of the hole.

thanks for all the support, yes i am going to keep the b17 just wanted to make sure i i ws on the right track.
as far as what to do with it, i would like to raise power by balancing the lower end, reduce drag in the motor as much as passable (not gutting int) beef-ing up the valve train and a cam profile that could receive a wider power band. the gsr's red line is 8.5. i thought 9.5 could be posable.

Keep it! Seriously, B18's aren't even that impressive, I have a 96 GSR and It still feels sloooow lol. It's not like .1 liters is going to make you super fast. Also the shorter stroke is a good thing if you have some mods to make up for the power (if that's a concern)

I don't really think its a good idea for anyone to bolt up a VTEC head on a stock LS or B20 block... After all, that's why Honda shortened the stroke of their VTEC engines... It's simply not safe to rev a longer-stroked engine. People might say otherwise and really bash on this statement, but I'm sure I'll have the final laugh when they're in the shop getting their bottom end rebuilt.
