Re: Anyone else think 1st gear sucks bad!!!!?? (slapmyfro)
You people need to pay a little more attention to what people write....... I am not talking about the 1st vtec switchover piont which occurs at 4400, I am talking about the SECOND vtec crossover piont, The one where the cam switches to high lobe. This crossover point happens at 5800 rpm. If a driver, any driver switched his gsr at redline , when they switch from 1st to 2nd, there rpm's will be at 5200-5300 rpm. What this means people is that you have DROPPED OUT OF VTEC. Not the 1st stage, but the second stage, the stage which makes the most difference. I think a retard can keep the 1st vtec open but NO ONE CAN keep the second vtec open (the one that occurs at 5800). Its not mathimatically possible to do this because of the gearing........ even if you powershift, the 2nd stage vtec will not stay open........
And about the "no one can stay above 5.8K" statement, I can do it everytime. One just needs to learn how to drive, and it's easy. I explained how it happens above. Mathematics don't account for clutch slip, tranny speed vs engine speed when slipping, and tire slip. It can be done. HTH, -C

As far as staying at 5800 or above on the 1-2 shift it is difficult to do with a stock clutch and flywheel. If i shift at redline i cannot do it no matter how fast i shift (no short shifter here) and i would say im a pretty decent driver... the revs always drop to 5600-5700. The trick is to shift right before fuel cut in first. Take it up to 8200 and if you can shift fast the rpms will drop to 5800. Just takes practice

Re: Anyone else think 1st gear sucks bad!!!!?? (MrSmith)
Hello all
I've got a 01 integra gs-r...a couple of days ago i decided to test the vtec by reving up to like 7000 rpm...at about 6500 rpm the brake light warning came on for about 2 seconds ..the hand brake was not on. After that the warning light shut off. Checked everything. oil pressure seems fine. Should i have the dealer look at it for 30 bucks ..or should i avoid getting close to the redline..If anyone has had this problem please let me know
Problem only happens in first gear but goes away after that.
VTEC=funnnnn
Thanks.

VTEC switchover is at 44-4500 unless you have a vtec controller and have changed it.
The IAB opens up at 6000 or so, and it is in NO WAY related to VTEC!
Guys pull your heads out and look in a book... secondary vtec switchover point my ***....
Kids! jesus h. christ.... these are the same type of people I love to roll on at a stop light.... yo, got's vtec...yo!
When any post is brought to my attention.. frustration sets in... *click*
