Another Driving/Idling Issues Thread
Alright heres the deal guys, I just swapped a high compression b20 into my 99 ls and i seem to have a problem while driving, It seems like the car will die for a split second then turn back on. Also it sometimes gets really hesitant while stopped , the RPM gauge will jump around the the car will stutter and sometimes die. Also while I do a cold start it sounds like the car misfires (sounds like popping out the exhaust)
Im thinking it be my distributor because it also did this on my old b20, but if you guys could shoot out some solutions as to what you think it might be it'd be appericated.

So been reading and is it possible that air in the coolant lines could make this happen? My guess is no cause that doesn't really make sense but **** anything could be possible. It just started today, and yesterday I had a leaking coolant line that i put back on and had to fill the radiator back up.
If your coolant levels are fine then I would check the Spark plugs that the Gap is right on the plugs. Then check the Plug wires and see if there might be a cut in the lines, best way to do that is to do it at night and use a flashlight. Get some pliers that are rubber gripped and lightly grab a wire and turn the light off with the car on and look for any small flashes(arcs) on the wires or the connectors. If you inspect the wires and they are flawless then move to the firing order and make sure your plugs are not crossed. If not then you need to look at your throttle body and see if there are any vacuum passages clogged, a good blast of carburetor cleaner should do it use the whole can but you need to leave your throttle open to evaporate the cleaner or you are going to pop and sputter and rev real high. Try playing with that for now and let us know what happens.
possible map or tps problem? coolant levels could play a part but i highly doubt enough to cause this problem.. what ecu are you running?
but as said above check the plugs, wires, and run an ohm test on your coil as well..

Problem solved! I guess the wiring that goes to the thermostate wasn't on all the way and that is what was cause it to run like ****.
Thanks for all the input guys!

Good I had a similar problem on my 1st gen and it was that damn thermostat grounding wire, seems when the previous owner had some work done on it and the dummies at the shop got the wires caught between the block and the transmission and didn't care to fix it because it was grounded between the two. When I rebuilt it and was replacing the wiring harness I just through it on and connected everything and connected the ground wire for the harness but it was only one wire that was connecting. Fixed, its all ggggggoooooooooodddddddd!!!!!!!!!
