Default adjusting timing

Well im looking at advancing my timing up to 18 but I read somewhere that your idle has to be at 750 +/- . My idle is around 1000 and 900. Is it still safe to adjust it when its like that? Ive searched and I didnt really find my answer so please no flaming.

Why was the idle so high? Were all of the accessories turned off? Was the car fully warm?

the idle is high bc it seems to run better when its around 900. anything lower it seems to struggle.

Yes, but why is it high? The ECU should be targeting 750 RPM by controlling the IACV. Is your ECU modified or is the idle adjustment screw wide open?

Can you adjust it to 750 for setting the timing? Why did you remove the IACV? Couldn't you have programmed the ECU to idle higher? I'm surprised that you don't throw a CEL for having no IACV.
