ABS System and Modulator..
Does anyone know if it's ok to replace the ABS system in my '95 with that of a different year. Do the different trims use the same ABS system? I'm thinking of buying a used Modulator (I've found a bunch of different auctions of various year Tegs) and swapping mine out to see if that takes care of my ABS problem.
I brought it to the dealership yesterday, and the report I got back said:
Checked ABS System, ABS Pump is over-running and may have internal leakage at modulator. ABS flush may fix concern ($135 parts & labour).
Any other suggestions would be appreciated if you think that the modulator is not my problem. The reason I lean towards blaming the modulator is that the report mentioned it and someone else on another ABS thread on HT recalled the same symptoms I'm getting and said it was their modulator with a leak.
Thanks!

ok... do you know how much that thing actually costs?
You are talking about the controller unit on the passenger front fender, behind the headlight, near the intake.
Put it this way... Some insurance companies will total your car out if you **** that thing up. It costs so much.

Its very expensive to say the least. Not sure if a car would be totalled. I had the same problem with my 95 GSR and I just yanked the entire ABS system and swapped it with the RS spec setup.
it should all be the same , it just needs all the ports to the wheels and to thr proportioning valve, master cyl which they should all be the same seeming all cars have front and rear brakes as well as a prop valve and master cyl . if your interested i have one for sale along with the modules and some of the brake lines and proportioning valve from an ITR , make me an offer if needed, has like 40k on it. i went non abs in my car. i got air bags too if someoen needs em .
Ebay? Junkyards? Someone said that Acura sells the Modulator for $700, which I think is probably *slightly* less than the value of my car.

good lukc getting thme at junkyards and **** , usually everything is stripped fromt he cars of any kind of valuelike that . make me an offer on mine if needed, ill ship it out today if the offer sounds good

your 2k1 ITR ABS Modulator Assembly will not fit into my 95 GS-R.
also.. @ BPS2799.. i just went to acuracarland and got quoted $1404.13 for the Modulator Assembly (1995 Integra)..
where'd you get your number from? http://www.partsvoice.com/ipc/...t_0_2

They list the parts by year for your car. I typed "2001" into mine and got these prices.
I think that the ABS modulator from an ITR would work, if you changed the brackets. The ABS controller would probably be more useful, since it would allow you to upgrade to the SpecR rotor setup more easily, assuming the ITR controller has different algorithms than GSR units.
If you're asking acuracarland for info, could you check to see if there is a difference between the two?

the person i talked to at my dealership just told me that the modulator is universal between all trims and years, 94-97, but that one from a 2001 ITR would not fit my 95 GSR. ambiguously, he mentioned something about it possibly being a matter of mounting, but i'm not sure if i understood that correctly.

The modulator is just a pump. The controller is what tells it when to pump. I was wondering if the ITR controller was programed "smarter" to allow more aggressive braking.
Migs has mentioned that the hard lines going into the modulator must be replaced to fit the ITR modulator.

I think the post about staying with a 94-97 system is correct.
The modulator itself should be common among all trims, since they are all front/rear disc systems. It serves 2 functions:
1)Has a Hydraulic Pump and Accumulator, to build and store pressure
2)Has valves for each wheel(2 valves per wheel). One valve to let pressure in, one to let pressure out.
The Controller/ECU *may* contain difference calibrations, for different tire sizes or agressiveness profiles, though often that is reprogrammable at a dealer. The wheel speed sensors ought to be the same, I'd expect the tires diameters to be the same or close enough not to cause a problem.
I used to work for Continental Teves designing the electronics for ABS/Traction Control/Stability Control. We didn't do any honda/acuras that I remember, though. The Japanese usually liked their own parts at that time.
Generally, we only had one ECU for each vehicle, for that vehicle 'generation'.
I would expect any 94-97 integra modulator to bolt up. I'd not be surprised if the 2001 one doesn't though. Its very common to move to a newer generation product after that many years, which often changes the hydraulics.
Its also likely that other Honda/Acura vehicles of the same model years use the same modulator.
Talk to a dealer, and find out what the part number is that you need. Then find out the part number, say, for a Acura Legend, or a Honda Accord, Or a Prelude, something like that, for similar model years. Might be the same.
We used to use the same modulator on many Chrylser, Ford, and european cars. They are so complex/expensive to design, they try to use the same one wherever they can.

ITR has a different modulator than all other ABS Integras; lighter, perhaps faster pulsing.
ITR tire size diff is less than 0.5% from non-ITR and a function of brand.
The ITR uses the same piston diameter for front caliper, so the difference there is leverage on a larger rotor.

thanks for the info everyone. very very helpful..
@ skunked - within a week i'll determine exactly what i need, and if i'm going to buy any parts i will surely message you with an offer. gotta have my honda guru friend look her over and tell me my future.

Alright let me know.
Alright let me know.
I remember reading a while ago that the difference between ITR and non ITR ABS systems is that the ITR has a higher rate at which it checks your wheel speeds against each other and the VSS and that its around 10~15 pounds lighter throughout the whole system.
I would not suggest going with a 98+ ABS System because thats just too much of a gray area for saftey's sake.

ABS light came on once when i owned that car, i filled the unit up with fluid and the light went away and I never had a problem again...this was easily more than a year ago.
