Be sure if you go Turbo to go low boost unless you pay to build your engine. Unless you know someone who owns a shop, building your engine will cost you another $2k...
How many miles do you have on the engine? I would do a compression and leak down test to see how healthy the motor is. Personally I would want to spend a little more than two grand if I was going to boost. You don't want to put everything together and skimp out on the tuning or have to buy a new clutch in a month after you burn the stock one up.
For $2000 I think I would get the exhaust done and clutch and flywheel, or just save a little more and boost it right.

There's plenty of brands you can go with, Revhard, Full-race,Greddy,Edelbrock, etc etc, just keep it low boost and don't try to push mass amount of power out of it. I'd say hit up the F/I section of this site and do a little research, see what most people run on stock blocks.
And for the love of god, DON'T buy an ebay turbo kit.

A b16 head. turbo is a easy answer but Vtec is sweet and will not effect everyday drivability and gas mileage. and ls/vtec can be just as fast as a force inducted motor. turbo only is worth it if your going to build your motor
Sell the LS tranny from your car buy a gsr or ITR w/LSD tranny and throw that in, buy a set of Kosies and put some good tires on them... then attend a few track events or HPDE's and learn how to drive your car.
Its going to be hard to piece together or buy a kit and spend $2000. It can be done, but not in a reliable way.
The best affordable kit out on the market right now is the Peakboost FTW kit, i think the MSRP is something like $2995.
That, however, is excluding engine management and other misc things that you might need to fully run the right way. Not to mention that price does not include tuning, and other drivetrain expenses (like clutch etc)
With every turbo build, there should be a separate account opened at the bank called "The OH **** fund", where basically you have some money in there just in case something goes wrong, which in the majority of the case, things will need to be replaced, rebuilt, etc. So make sure you have extra money lying around just in case something happens.
So, to put it short, there is no way to build a reliable turbo car for only $2000. That money is enough to give you 3/4ths of a full turbo kit. With all the other expenses taken into consideration ( WITH NO MOTOR BUILDING, assuming its a stock motor) youll probably be looking at around $5-$6k, including misc parts, installation, tuning, etc.
If you really want to go FI, then i suggest saving up a little more and doing it right the first time...
If you only have $2k to spend, and nothing more, then i would suggest getting a Vtec head, such as a pr3 or a p72 and doing an ls/vtec conversion. It will run you a lot less than a turbo kit, but make sure you do it right as well, since lsvtec have been known to have many problems, like oil leaks etc.
Purchase the head, a Golden Eagle LS/VTEC kit, some good OEM high compression pistons, and maybe some mild cams, with hondata, tune it, and youll be set...might be a little over $2000, but not by much, compared to a turbo setup.
Hope that helps

something UNDER a grand with GOOD shopping???? i have yet to see that...
i hope you know what a turbo kit consists of...you realize that you need ALOT of things...so does tuning the motor also go under that "under 2 grand budget of yours"? cuz if it does then i can tell you right now that 1. you did no research whatsoever and 2. your car wont last very long.
Please dont post up under the Forced Induction section...they will eat you alive with comments like that...

if you call around to various tuning shops, you see that just tuning alone for a turbo car can run up to $1500....and TUNING MAKES A TURBO CAR RELIABLE...but i think you know that since youre so experienced with turbo and all... lol.
you said it yourself..."if you blow your motor, just replace the block and start all over again"...so that means that you know something bad will happen...why are you giving such bad advice? the right to say would be...DO IT RIGHT THE FIRST TIME!!
