Bringing back an Old one but have a quick question. Should higher octane (91 here) give you better MPG? And is it worth the price difference?

I plan on checking myself, just seeing if anyone already has information on it.

Depends if your tuned to run on that gas. Of course if your tuned for 91 and you put in 87 you'll probably knock and run horrible etc.

So no difference in MPG by putting a higher octane gas. I higher octane gas simply has more resistance to getting blown up prematurely or detonate.

since prices been $4.30-4.50ish, i have been fueling 87 in my gsr and it runs fine. i don't feel any decrease in mpg but i do notice a small decrease in torque. if you don't make up that loss power by giving more gas, it will equal to the same mpg. bottom line is, drive conservatively and the difference in octane shouldn't make much of a difference. Do however, keep in mind of your engine's health especially if it is modded because it will have a narrower window of tolerance for lower quality gas. my b18c1 is stock

sorry. my post was in response to COLLKID. I totally agree with the tuned for 91 will have increased knock with lower grade gas.

I have a 95 teg with a d16z6 swap (shut up lol). all stock except an injen short ram intake (made fuel economy worse). I dont do much city driving so I dont know what I get for that but highway, I get 30mpg with Phillips 66's 87. Not great but i go 80mph for a straight hour to work. Ever since my teacher told me about when he started watching his mpg's with different gas stations, i started doing the same. NEVER use wal-marts gas stations. They get the worst mileage, and i get only 23mpg hwy with QT and about the same with Mobil. Also if you have the option to fill up in less populated areas, their gas should last longer. Big cities usually use more ethanol so it burns up quicker.

1994 integra LS with b16 tranny.
Gas is $4.39 for 87 oct.
36mpg freeway.

I don't really drive streets. I work Monday thru Friday and do a 22 mile commute to work

Found a chevron selling 87 oct for only $4.17. So I filled up on premium

b18c in a EG sedan. Headers, CAI, Cat back exhaust.

lucky if i get over 23 mpg, mostly short trips city-ish driving. In need of rebuild, hopefully then numbers will go back up. I dont driver her much now that she burns more oil than its worth to drive.

Opps...sorry fellas. Forgot I was in the teggy page. But hey its a teggy engine

I have a 98 GSR in my 94 VX and I was getting 32.5 MPG 50/50 driving doing 80 on HWY on the stock ECU with CAI, Skunk2 IM, Hytech rep 4-2-1 into a 60mm exhaust. I get about 26 MPG since I swapped to a chipped ecu. I am also running very rich due to installing a walbro 255 recently. Shell 93 octane is the only fuel I use unless in is E free.

These numbers are very impressive to me as well because I drive my hatch once or twice a month. When I do get a chance to drive, I drive it like I stole it

Some of these numbers are just not believeable. I have a low mileage stock perfectly running 94 ls that gets 24 city and 30 highway driving sensibly. Terrain here is level and less than 250 feet above sea level.
How do you figure your numbers? Are you actually dividing the mileage driven by the gallons you took to refill? How many are you on tires that are actually the CORRECT height and if not, are you adjusting the mileage for incorrect tire size? If you have tires that are low profile they will spin faster and count miles quicker than they are actually being driven... I'm not trying to start a fight but I call bullshit on half of what I see in this thread. The math is flawed. I also know there are flukes like the dude with the wrong ecu and its so lean he actually is getting those numbers. Ping city.

i would fill up my tank till the nozzle no longer allows me, about 10.21 gallons. reset my little speedo counter and i usually get a little over 340-350 miles untill my gas light comes up.

my formula is as follows.

340-350/10.21=34.28mpg.

sometimes i do get a higher number sometimes i get a lower number. all depends how i drive. seeing as i have the b16a tranny, my 5th is way short so i always go 60mph on the freeways. i go into nuetral whenver i hit a downhill, my commute to work has a couple so i get chances to coast. i watch my MPG/write them down in a little book i keep in my car for certain reasons. 1 is that gas prices in my area are rediculous and i try to get my moneys worth. i hardly drive street because i dont want to display my integra to local theives. my uncle was followed home once and had his old GSR stolen at grocery store parking lot.
