I know this is non Honda related content but we just had a Toyota 2JZGTE motor with a Precision Billet 6262 0.82 AR on the dyno.

The car only produced 340 whp @ 14 psi

The power comes in very quickly and aggressive but then seems to fall flat - does the 6262 Turbine wheel and housing have enough flow capacity for the 6 cyl 2JZ ??


I have seem many cars make over 600 whp with these and the AWD Motorsport made over 700 whp @ 42 psi IIRC - so by that it seems to offer sufficient flow.

You're comparing 14psi to 42psi with the same turbo. Wut?

 

Im not comparing the Turbo in Power terms if you read carefully.

I am asking for an indication of Turbine capacity on the 6262 - thus comparing turbine flow capability...

 

.82 housing seems a little small for a Supra shooting for 700 whp, I'd expect to see 1.08+?

 

It really depends upon what you're trying to do. Power goals for over 700 actually should use a larger turbo. But before even getting into that, you should also check to make sure that all leaks are taken care of first.

 

No you aren't getting it.

A certain mass flow through the turbine housing equates to a certain pressure ratio across it as well.

The turbine side pressure ratio and the compressor side pressure ratio are linked to a large degree.

In other words that turbine is flowing 600whp in your example because at 42psi boost pressure, you also have much more pressure in the exhaust manifold, the pressure difference between the exhaust entering the turbine and the pressure post turbine is much higher, so the flows rate is much higher as well.

You can have fast boost response but require comparatively large pressure ratios for a given HP output, or you have have big hp numbers with less boost but with a slower response (higher rpm boost threshold).

Obviously this is way oversimplified but you get the idea.

Basically the turbo might not necessarily be limited in terms of output, but the amount of boost you will need to hit certain output levels will be higher than if you have a larger turbo (esp. hotside).

Whether or not this is acceptable to you will depend on many things.

 

The 6262 wont make more than about 600whp in a Supra with the T3 .82 turbine side. The best would be to get the .96 T4 housing, and you could push it closer to 700whp.

The turbine side needs much more mass flow with a 3.0 liter than a 2.0 Evo. Smaller displacement motors will also benefit because they run very high pressure to make power, and that effectively increases efficiency levels.

You can make decent power on a Supra, but the turbine backpressure will rise exponentially in relation to the intake manifold pressure. On top of that, its not just pressure in the turbine side, its limited volume.
