Red Bull’s New Driver Keeps It Real

Liam Lawson opens up about past, present, and future racing topics.
In the past, reading feedback from athletes on the current state of their careers and sports was somewhat challenging. We had to navigate several media outlets for small comments and even worse, their public relations folks putting a cap on what they can say. Fast forward to today, we have things like podcasts where people can sit down for an extended period of time and discuss almost anything. That is what Liam Lawson did recently on this podcast.

Liam is the replacement for Sergio Perez in the 2025 Formula1 championship. He will take on the role of driver number 2 at Red Bull. Known for being an absolute cut-throat team with high expectations.

He brings up his background of karting and feelings about getting a seat at a premier team, before even completing an entire season in F1. There’s a lot of pressure to perform and as we all already know, that pressure does not get any lesser at Red Bull specifically. This podcast also interviewed Alex Albon, who was in the exact seat that Liam will be taking on.

When describing the car, Alex says it’s as if you’re playing a video game on maximum sensitivity. Max has been able to perfect this and can drive with absolute confidence, which the Red Bull car demands. Alex and Liam confirm that the car is “front” heavy, where there’s lots of grip up front and requires a purposeful drive in order to keep the rear end from swapping places with the front.

If you’ve ever driven a tail happy car or one that has heavy oversteering tendencies, you know exactly what this means. Albon and Perez all had a slower pace after losing their confidence to drive – we hope Liam can differ in outcome.
