Possible 2023 Honda Civic Type R Power Figures Leak Online
If true, the 2023 Honda Civic Type R will be the most powerful of its kind, as well as the top of its class.
The all-new, next-generation 2023 Honda Civic Type R was revealed to the world in July on the cusp of the model’s 25th anniversary with some rather subdued styling compared to its predecessor, albeit with the promise of superior performance. However, there was one key detail missing from that particular unveiling – power figures – as Honda prefers to wait until we get closer to the new model’s launch to reveal any numbers. Regardless, the automaker promised that the new Civic Type R will be “the fastest, most powerful Honda-branded vehicle ever offered in the U.S.,” which is pretty enticing. If a recent leak at the CivicXI forums proves to be true, that certainly appears to be the case.
The leak claims that the 2023 Honda Civic Type R will make 326 horsepower and 309 pound-feet of torque courtesy of its turbocharged 2.0-liter four-cylinder powerplant, which is a notable upgrade over the outgoing model’s 306 horsepower and 295 pound-feet of torque. Those numbers would also make the new Civic Type R the most powerful U.S. Honda production model ever made, as well as the top dog in its particular segment.
However, power figures aren’t the only enticing bit of information that emerged from this leak. It also lists the new model’s curb weight at at 3,152 pounds – 31 more than the current model. However, the new car is 1.3 inches longer and 0.5 inches wider, with 1.2 inches less in terms of height and an identical wheelbase.
As far as availability goes, this leak claims that the 2023 Honda Civic Type R will be limited to somewhere between 6,000-10,000 units, though it’s unclear if this is for the Japanese market or a total figure for global output. Given the fact that Honda sold around 7,000 FK8 models worldwide per year throughout its production run, that seems like a reasonable total, however.
It’s also unclear if these power figures will vary between the Japanese market and the rest of the world, but they certainly seem reasonable. If they hold up, the forthcoming 2023 Civic Type R will instantly become the king of its class, making it even more desirable than it already is.
