Take an up Close Look at the Brand New 2023 Honda Civic Type R
We still don’t know everything about the 2023 Honda Civic Type R, but here’s our best look yet at one in the flesh.
It been a mere few weeks since the 2023 Honda Civic Type R was revealed to considerable fanfare, a more subdued yet still sporty-looking machine compared to its heavily stylized predecessor. Regardless, YouTuber Tedward recently got the chance to check out the latest, hottest version of the long-running model up close, giving us our best look yet at some of the changes Honda made to the car for its latest iteration, even though it hasn’t released all of the technical data on the new Type R just yet.
The 2023 Honda Civic Type R is said to be “the most powerful yet,” and will be packing the same turbocharged 2.0-liter four-cylinder powerplant as its predecessor, albeit with some tweaks including better cooling to address overheating issues in the current model. It also rides on “enhanced” underpinnings and actually features smaller wheels – 19-inch versus 20-inch – with wider 265/30 Michelin Pilot Sport 4S summer tires that also provide a bit more sidewall for comfort’s sake.
Aside from its mysterious mechanics, the new Civic Type R is a major departure from its predecessor in terms of looks, presenting a more muscular and less audacious design that should appeal to those that weren’t fans of the prior model. Personally, we think it looks fantastic, and we don’t mind this car’s giant rear wing, either, as it looks more integrated than the typical universal, tacked-on aftermarket piece. That wing, along with flared fenders, a triple-tip center-exit exhaust, and assorted vents are enough to tell everyone this isn’t some average Civic, however.
The interior is a bit louder thanks to red seats and red carpeting, along with all the updated goodies present in the 11th gen Civic, such as a 9-inch infotainment screen, digital gauge cluster with a unique Type R design and features, wireless Android Auto and Apple CarPlay, and all the amenities one would expect from something built and sold in the early 2020s.
There are still many questions left to be answered when it comes to the latest Civic Type R, but all of that will be revealed in due time. With any luck, we’ll be able to find one near its estimated $40k sticker price in a world full of crazy dealer markups, but we’re guessing that task will prove rather difficult in today’s supply constrained world.
