K-Swapped GK Drift Fit Is Perfect Madness
K-swaps are at their best in rear wheel drive cars that used to be front wheel drive, just like this GK drift Fit.
Few things in life offer more joy than seeing outside-of-the-box builds. Sure, it’s easy to take a Honda S2000 drifting, but why not a Honda Fit? Somewhere in Thailand, a builder had that exact thought process, and thankfully photographer Jada Jeedjai was there to capture the brilliance.
Starting with a GK Honda Fit, owner “Tee Inkjet” has taken this economy hatchback and built a solid drift platform from it. Through images we can only guess at some of the build specifics, but we can identify K-power, and a monster sized turbocharger. Transmission? We don’t really know. But it does appear to be a 6-speed and that’s pretty awesome. What we do know is the turbo K setup is run by a Haltech ECU, and information is displayed via an AiM MXS dashboard.
Tee Inkjet sits in a Bride seat, is held in by Takata belts, and slides around via a MOMO Prototipo steering wheel. A neat touch is seeing most of the stock dashboard is retained. Additional protection for the driver comes in the way of a thorough roll cage, complete with body bracing.
One thing you won’t find is any #flush hashtags, as the Weld wheels poke out from the fenders considerably. but that’s OK, because you’re rarely seeing the car coming straight at you anyway. In the examples we see here, this Fit is a smokeshow in more way than one.
Rear wheel drive conversions aren’t a new thing. We’ve covered mid engine Integra builds before, and even showcased all wheel drive Civic conversions. But this kind of build is something we’d like to see a lot more of. The time, dedication and skill required to have something like this work is worth every accolade offered. While this GK is intended for the drift scene, it would be really cool to see one created specifically for time trials or circuit racing. How cool would it be to see a rear wheel drive FK8 Civic Type R tear it up with supercars?
