BREAKING: Honda Axes Fit, Civic Coupe & Manual Accord

Honda Axes Fit, Civic Coupe, and Manual Accord

It’s a bad day for Honda fans, as three of their most appealing models go away for good.

Sad news today for us Honda fans. There will be no manual transmission option for the Accord from here on out. The Accord was previously available with a six speed manual transmission in Sport trim, paired with either the 1.5 liter or 2.0 liter four cylinders.

We get this bit of news from our friends over at Car and Driver, who also report that manual Accord production quietly ceased back in December of last year. They only learned of the change due to a press release about 2021 model year changes for the Accord.

It’s clear that the take rate was infinitesimally low, since we’re only just now hearing about the change over half a year later. Honda themselves states that the option made up less than two percent of total Accord sales. The numbers simply don’t make financial sense — it’s just not worth it for them to keep the option around.

Nobody’s Buying It

Car and Driver did the math, and it looks like fewer than 5,000 Accords were sold with a six-speed manual transmission last year. There’s a good possibility that these cars will become desirable in the future.

Back in May, Gary Robin, Honda’s head of product planning, told Car and Driver that they were committed to keeping the three-pedal dream alive, and were even considering adding more manual models to the lineup. Apparently, the Accord isn’t part of those plans.

After performing a nationwide dealer search of around 15,000 new Accords available for sale, Car and Driver found about 20 six speed manual models left on dealer lots. If you want one, you had better act quickly.

Unfortunately, that’s not the only bad news for Honda fans. Honda will also stop selling the Fit here in the US, and the Civic coupe is gone as well. Like we said, it’s a rough day for Honda fans. We’re here for you.
