Honda K24 Powered Toyota Celica

With a massively turbocharged Honda K24 underhood, this classic Toyota Celica is a tame street machine and a track terror.

In recent years, we’re seeing more and more Honda powerplants pop up in other makes, which is an interesting development, indeed. Many of these engines wind up powering Toyota models, in fact, which is both sacrilegious and somewhat humorous given the fact that these two are arguably each other’s biggest rival. Nonetheless, it’s easy to see why people commit such acts of treason, particularly after checking out this amazingly quick Toyota Celica with Honda K24 power.

Owned and built by the folks behind the YouTube channel Auto Perfection, this Honda K24 powered Toyota Celica is a true dual-purpose machine. In fact, the team drives it to and from the track rather than trailering it, which is the perfect testament to how fantastic this particular powerplant really is. However, aside from its rear wing and parachute, one would be hard-pressed to tell just how capable it is at the drag strip.

At least, that’s the case before the driver puts his foot down and we can hear the screaming, massively turbocharged engine scream. On its very first pass, it backs that up by recording an 8.2-second pass at 168 miles-per-hour, which is a seriously impressive time by anyone’s standards. Of course, this isn’t good enough for the team, which feels like it can crack into the sevens with a few tweaks on the old laptop.

That does indeed come to fruition on the next pass, when this K24-powered Celica rips off a personal best 7.911-second pass at 155 mph, much to the delight of this team. Unfortunately, the fuel system decides to give them some issues after this pass, which means that more upgrades are called for, though it also means that this particular outing needs to end a bit early, too.

Regardless, the team manages to turn around and drive the car home, which is a testament to its true dual-purpose nature – after all, how many cars do we see that are this quick at the track, yet perfectly tame on the street? That’s the magic of a K24 swap, and the reason why so many people choose to go that route.
