Trailer build

Honda-Tech forum member shows us how he created his outstanding trailer build project.

We find ourselves in strange times, to put it very mildly. Our online community at Honda-Tech Forums has shown it is a great place to escape the headlines for a little while. We also find that our members are really turning out some inspired projects at home.

Forum member Dublocivic posted a very cool project that he recently completed. His custom trailer build is a knockout, and shows off some truly outstanding craftsmanship.

Now, Dublocivic has a stunning fifth-gen Civic that was built to come alive on the track.

Honda Civic

Yep, a beauty. And a car deserving only the best. Dublocivic wrote about his project, building a killer, custom trailer to take his pride and joy back and forth to the track.

“I have been looking to find some time to figure out a plan with my trailer and the current world situation provided the perfect opportunity to get a project in motion. I needed to make my setup easier for track weekends. If you own or have owned a roof top tent, they are not the most convenient piece of gear to attach/remove from your vehicle. I decided to put together something that would fit the bill.”

He got to work. Measuring the bumper, hood seam, and roofline height. From there, he started to fabricate a rack for the tent.

“The Hobart 140 [welder] did the job using 75/25 argon/C02…what a great little hobby mig. After the rack was all welded up, I primed it and sprayed it with some bed liner.”

“The rack fits into the stake pockets tight front to back. Then I took some J-hooks and nyloc nuts to snug it down to the trailer frame.”

“Pretty happy with the results! With the tent deployed, it will provide a nice shaded area underneath for those hot track weekends in August…nice place to keep the cooler out of the sun too.”

“Now the setup is ready to go with minimal prep and no more fuel jugs in the car or the 4Runner… she is good to go. I have a few more add-ons that I am working on that will complete the package but this takes care of the fuel and sleeping arrangement trailer mods for track weekends.”

And that is how it is done.
