Abandoned EK 4-Door: Saving a Rough One

Unless you’re committed to a project, stop looking at marketplace listings.
We’ve all looked at marketplace listings we have no business doing so. The same thoughts cross our minds: that’s a deal, it doesn’t need too much. Well, this YouTuber not only thought that, but also executed on it too.

The first step of any new project is to clean everything so that all the flaws can be found. This project car appears to have sat outside for long periods of time. Mildew, leaves, and general patina from Mother Nature had made its way onto it.

The original single cam engine has indications of failed repair attempts. Likely a combination of funding and poor luck pulled this car off the road. Usually cars like this are destined for the scrap yard, but with enough effort it can be road going again.

Once placed on the lift, the engine was removed and the suspension was addressed. Items like the bushings, brakes, and ball joints have all experienced significant wear over the course of its life. With some elbow grease, spray paint, and replacement parts everything was back in order.

The single cam engine was discarded to make room for the new K-series power plant. So many aftermarket brands offer swap components now. It makes completing this swap very easy and seemingly at the snap of the fingers it’s done.

The misconception that YouTube or even builds like those documented here on Honda-Tech creates is that builds are quick and easy. Be prepared to spend countless hours and hard earned dollars to address the not-so-obvious issues found on these marketplace deals.
If you can stomach it though, you can have something amazing.
