Today something weird happened to my clutch.

Yesterday I started to feel that something was weird with the clutch pedal, sometimes it seemed too soft , although I was able to switch gears ok.

When I stopped, I noticed that when I push down the pedal, making almost no force on the pedal, just touching the pedal with the foot, the pedal starts to go down until it gets all down and stays there. It only comes up if I pull-it back. I notice than when this happens, the clutch slave cylinder almost doesn't move.

Meanwhile, if I press the clutch hard, just has in normal use, the clutch works ok.

While parking, with the clutch half down half up, the clutch suddenly got released, just as if I have let go the clutch quite fast.

I have been looking at the clutch slave cylinder and see no oil leaks. As for the master cylinder, I also see no leaks.

If I push down the pedal, it has pressure, but after some 4 seconds it looses pressure and stays on the floor until I pull it up.


What is the problem of my clutch? Is the clutch master cylinder that has gone? If so, that is way too bad, as the car only has 117000km

maybe you need to bleed the clutch slave cylinder. there might be air in it. also your slave cylinder might be bad already that is why you have no pressure or you could also have a leak in the line check to see if your fluid is ok if not is got to be leaking between the two points the clutch reservoir and the clutch slave cylinders

I replaced the fluid about 2 months ago and bleed it properly, and since then, the clutch was just perfect.

Also, I have no leaks at the slave, the fluid level is ok, it hasn't gone down since I changed the fluid.

Oh, I noticed yesterday that when I push down the pedal, the fluid level in the reservoir gets higher, so I might think that the master cylinder is sending the fluid back to the reservoir instead of sending it to the slave cylinder, right?

Problem fixed, bought a new master cylinder and installed it

One thing that got me thinking is that the oil in the reservoir was completely black, as if it was there for years. The thing is that I replaced it about 2/3 months ago. What the hell happened to the oil to be so dirt? Could be deterioration from the rubber seals inside the master cylinder that got the oil black? I don't get

Yes, if the fluid turns black fast, that means your Slave/Master cylinder seals are worn out/deteriorating.

If the Seals were good, it would take a long time before the fluid becomes black. Most often it will just go from Golden (brand new) -> Honey Brown -> Dark Brown.
