Default Short Shifter bad for transmission?

Ive been seeing/reading mixed feelings about putting a short shifter in your car. I see that it puts extra stress on the transmission.. I see that it causes no problems..

I'm contemplating putting a shirt shifter into my car when I install my swap, because I'm tired of my stock shifter height.. But I wanted some true factual information about why it is said that a short shifter is bad for your tranny...

If it matters, I'm going to do a b16 swap into a 2000 coupe.

IMO they tend to wear synchros b/c the shorter throw allows less time for the input-output speeds to match. It really depends how you drive the car. If you're the type that shoves the shifter into the dash your probally gonna break something.

Short shifter is still gonna sit at the same height. They aren't any shorter than a regular shifter. What they do is shorten the throw between gears allowing you to shift quicker.

Oh I see, I was told that they put added stress on the transmission but I'm not exactly sure how that is possible...

Still trying to gain a better understanding before I make a purchase..

If that doesnt lower the height of the shifter, how is it that people obtain a lower height for their shifter?

They either A): Do it right and buy a shorter, aftermarket stick. Or B): Grind it down and re-tap the threads (Not the best Idea).

the ratio of length on either side of the central pivot of the shifter determines how long or short the throws between gears are. the problem was mentioned, shifting quicker leaves less time for the shafts to adjust to speed changes.

Im not really concerned about the throw distance... thats why i rephrased... I'm looking for shorter height on the stick...

In regards to the issues that can some from a short shifter and the shafts... Are you going to need to replace synchros often or is the "damage" more internal?

its still going to depend on how you drive. if you go slowly when your not racing then it would be totally fine. why do you want the shifter to be further away?

I just feel its too high... I'd like it about 2 inches lower... But I'm not going to attempt to cut it myself to correct the issue... If I cant find s shorter shift stick- if thats the correct name- then I'll just have to deal with it...

And about the short shifter.. this is a DD car.. not a track car.. if I can make it easier to shift then ok.. if not thats no biggie..

I just thought about this..... Does anyone know if there is any form of shifter interchangability? Like could i get a shifter from a different civic or integra that might be shorter and use that in my car?
