Need help bad, axle type loud clicking noises?? Please help!!
This is on a stock 92 Civic DX.
My car is making crazy loud clicking noises (sounds like a metal stick in bicycle spokes, it started faintly and only when I turned hard, while accelerating, now it's pretty much all the time, and very loud/serious sounding. I jacked up the car today, expecting a torn CV and an axle needing to be replaced..but much to my dismay, there were DSS axles, in perfect condition. Now, that should be a good thing, but it's not, because now I don't know where that noise is coming from, and it sounds serious. My only other observations are that the noise is definately only when under load, (i.e. no noise when turning +in nuetral or when clutch is in) Please help!! Also, there's a bunch of oil around the oil pan gasket area, but the oil level isn't low at all! PLease please help! I need this car to commute for a few more weeks until I do my swap.

thanks, but as I said, I already checked them. Please someone who can actually help, offer some advice. I'm sorry for getting frustrated, but I need some GOOD advice, this car needs to be running by tomorrow.

check the boots closely coz there might be a little tear in the boots. Maybe your wheel bearings are bad. try jacking up the car and grab the wheel at 12 and 6 and wiggle it around if there is play then your bearings might be bad

Re: (SleepyEG)
Not to rag on DSS as I've never used them, but it's my experience and generalization that alot of aftermarket parts (especially drive train) are designed to handle alot of power for a short period of time and regardless of how much power you do or don't make, they fail in a relatively short time compared to stock.
So, I'm not sure how one could check the axles (aside from just hearing and knowing) but I'd bet that or the wheel bearing (as someone else said) is the culprit.
Does the clicking change with speed or revs, ie. is it the same going 45mph in 3rd, 4th and 5th gear? If so, it's most likely outside the tranny/engine, otherwise it's internal.

Yeah, it's definitely your CV axles. When it starts to click and make clunking noises like that, the only thing you can do is repack them or easier yet, replace those damn things. Repacking them is fairly difficult so I would just replace them, they shouldn't run more than $120 for the pair.

Re: (TonyT)
do I need to replace both axles? I only plan on driving the car for about 6 more weeks, then it's all going in the trash for a swap. Also, could I put my teg axles in? I'm assuming no, but I figured I'd ask
