Engine break in - 5w-30 or 10w-30 ??
I'm breaking in my built ZC and am currently using 5w-30 Honda motor oil. But after i run it for any amount of time, shut it down, and try to restart it i can't. I have to take the plugs out and clean them cause there drenched in oil and won't fire. Now i know there is gonna be some oil in the chamber until the rings seal but is 5w-30 to thin for a break in. I also leave a nice huge smoke screen where ever i go. Just curious on some opinions. Thanks

something is wrong. there shouldn't be oil in your combustion chamber. you have a problem either with your rings or with your valve seals. that's why your spewing smoke everywhere.

Sounds like you are running too rich. If you are fouling plugs, then its usually overfueling. Oil weight really shouldn't matter for your problem.

something is wrong, you should not be having that much oil in the conbustion chamber.
did you stagger the rings properly?

Did you install the rings with the correct side facing up? Do you do any work on the head? Guides or anything?

Pistons and rods were installed by a shop and the head was just redone, so everything is brand new. I think i may have made it sound like it was tons of oil, it's not tons but enough to foul them out where there not sparking. If i clean them up it starts right up and continues to run with no problem. I have a Zdyne and i'm running the stock ZC program so there shouldn't be a problem with running rich. Well i'm gonna get it plated tomorrow and start driving it a little bit. Hopefully if i put some more miles on it the rings will seal up better. Keep in mind the motor only has about 3-4 miles on it.
A little history of my project might help. I started breaking the car in but had some serious tranny problems so i had to put it off. Kinda fixed the tranny but i decided to get new balljoints. A problem at the factory delayed my balljoints for 7 weeks, yes i said seven. Put the balljoints on last week and the rest of the suspension together. So from the initial time i tried to break it in and this time has been a little over 2 months. And i wasn't started in between that time. Not sure if that makes a difference, but knowing everything can help form a good resolution.

put some miles on it, like 500-750, if it's still fouling plugs w/ oil then you have a problem
