Default Car Intake sounds like vaccum cleaner

No matter what temp outside, if you stand in front of the car, it sounds like I have a running vaccum cleaner in the car. If i take my hand over the air intake, and choke the car, it stops. What could it be?

Mine appears to do this as well but only on cold starts. Same intake, didn't do it before but does now. Is your quite loud? Most people will say oh yeah aftermarket intakes are loud, but I know what you mean. If its like mine when my engine is cold, its loud. Possibly the fitv?

well from all the info that both of you provided it seems that someone installed a miniature intake vacuum cleaner in your engine.
to keep that floor of your intake tube clean...

It is normal with a cold air intake and short ram intake. My cai is louder than my motor.

An internal combustion engine is a vacuum pump. Just like the vacuum cleaner. Seems fitting that it sounds like one.

cold starts IACV is open more to keep the RPM higher for warmup.
it sucks more air and makes more noise.

take your intake pipe off and listen how loud it is without an intake

Raverx3m- That is what it seems like it is but 3x's-4x's louder than normal.

This is why I love H-T sometimes [: Id start a whole new thread but I'm sure if I did that my love for H-T would grow even more. And that H-T would get mad. If the OP has a problem with my post I will remove it immediately.

Don't know the OP's story. But, D15b vtec (single stage), re calibrated my TPS correctly (had to remove my throttle body and coolant lines to do so) and wired in my IAT and now my intake is loud as hell. Surges just a tiny bit still after 3 coolant bleeding attempts. Before taking the tb off and doing that job it was never this loud even when cold. Stock intake back on, as still damn loud.

I've seen a few threads like this where many dismiss it as, "Herp its an aftermarket intake its loud". I know what a properly working engine's damn intake sounds like at idle. Please believe me, lol.

I gave up my SRI system for a stock system because of the noise. I like it much better.

Didn't even need to take a vid. OP depending on how far out the idle screw is, the louder the sound of the intake at idle.

Sorry about not replying for a while. Lack of Internet sucks. It did stop when I unplugged it, so I pulled it out and cleaned it with some tb cleaner, it fixed a 1.5k to 2k rpm jump at idle, and sounds more like the ac inlet in a house now instead of a vaccum cleaner. I was later told doing that can mess up the iacv motor by my instructor at school

your intake is technically a vaccum? how does it sound different? could it be a fan running?
