Default Burnt? Or what

I recently got new plugs, wires, distributor, cap, and rotor for my D16Z6. I pulled the plugs out and there is a black sooty type powder on them. The electrode doesnt look messed up. They are 1 range colder then stock and I have them gaped to 41. Should I size down the gap? Runnin rich? Motor prob? Any help is much appriciated. Thanks

black sooty deposits may indicate an improperly tuned vehicle. excess carbon makes the plugs black. a normally worn plug will be gray or have light tan deposits. check your air filter and ignition components to make sure that they are in good working order
