Ball joints....nuff said...
Hey guys. I was replacing my halfshaft last night. 1 hr job turned into 3 hrs and I'm still not done. Most of the time was spend battling the boogered up threads on the lower ball joint that spins as you try to thread the castle nut. My plan in the morning is to apply pressure to the lower control arm and clean the threads up with a die. If that doesn't work. Separate the ball joint. Grip it somehow and cut new threads that way. Any tips and shortcuts would be appreciated!!

Are you using an impact? Try using an impact. Re-tighten the ball joint to re-seat it (with the impact). Then zap it off. You need a quick turning motion. Ideally, you need an air impact...not electric.
Or alternative methods:
-cut the nut and threads off the ball joint. Buy a new ball joint.
-jack up on the control arm. This will use the weight of the spindle to maybe re-seat the joint. Try turning it then. Again...an impact works better.
