Check Engine Light won't turn off!!
Alright so after 2 hours of searching and troubleshooting i still can't get the CEL to turn off. 95 civic ex swapped the gauge cluster and got some old cel codes then cleared them by removing the neg battery cable after also reseting the SRS light that used to be on all the time with the paper clip trick. Now the cel only does non stop long flashes while its under the paper clip and it just stays on solid without the clip. Tried swapping the ecu with a p28 chipped ecu from my b16 hatch and turned the key with out turning the motor over and still the same thing! i'm stomped here any help?

Re: Check Engine Light won't turn off!!
the codes were IACV and tps but i didnt see them before since the cel bulb was not present on the messed up gauge cluster. The codes have not come back since reset so it must have came up when i was trouble shooting my jacked up honda famous up and down idle. Now the cel just has long infinite flashes and solid without the clip. The cel issue i have now all started once i reconnected the neg battery cable.

Is this thread real....wait...am I dreaming?
Your old messed up guage cluster had no cel bulb...new one does. Now the check engine light is on. Because really it was all along. You jump the connector and see it flash, thats what its supposed to do, its giving you the code(s)... stays solid when not jumping connector, thats what its supposed to do...its telling you theres a problem. You had those problems all along dude.
Fix the cel's.
Check iacv plug/wiring w/ mulimeter. Clean or replace iacv if neccessary.
Same with the tps.

Re: Check Engine Light won't turn off!!
I know for a fact that i disconnected the iacv and the tps while the car was running like a week ago while troubleshooting so it would make sense for me to come up with these codes once i put the bulb in, the thing is that the codes have not come up again since i reset the ecu. Now when i jump the service connector all i get is non stop long flashes wich mean what? I checked all fuses, cleaned the ground wire at the thermostat housing and cleaned the neg batt cable ground contact.

Yeah well i guess i'll see if maybe the light goes out eventually with a couple of drive cycles cause it just stays on solid while its not jumped this is some bull shet.

******Update******
Picked up an auto P28 virgin ecu that i personally pulled from a 93 civic ex AUTO from a salvage yard today. Hooked it up and what do u know.. The check engine was on and finally was throwing codes. The codes were the obvious #19 transaxle lock up solenoid and a new one the #19 o2 sensor. But the whole time the car gained an instant idle surge like the quick up and down ones like when u have air bubbles in the coolant. Hooked the other ecu that keeps the cel on and no codes to show and the idle surge goes away. What in the hell?!!!

Thanx for caring i'll check this stuff tomorow. What i know for sure is that i checked all my fuses ans the problem started once i disconnected the neg battery post and reconnected it.

Re: Check Engine Light won't turn off!!
Ok folks so I finally broke down= (let somebody else try to look in to it) and took the civic to a local shop. Paid a total of $178.00 bucks and according to them it turned out to be a faulty Air temp sensor on my d16z6 right behind the intake maniforld that was shorting out causing the o2 sensor cel to come on right away. I sure am glad I got to the bottom of this and I thank everybody that tried to help me out with this situation.
