b16b vs. b18C (jdm gsr)
hey everyone.. i'm looking in the near future to get a complete swap over for my ek coupe.. and i want an LSD tranmission.. so if i get the b18C.. i'll have to get EK mounts and SI T bracket grand total of about 3400... and the b18c has 180HP and 126 ft lbs of torque... if i get the b16b full change over it already comes with an lsd transmission and it comes with all the mounts i need.. only downside i can see is that it has 9 lbs less torque... the b16b full change over is 3500.. so for 100 more i can get a ctr valve cover all the ek mounts and T bracket that i'll need and an s4c trans instead of a s80/y80 w/lsd.. so whats everyone elses opinion on this???
B16B??? or B18C???

thats the same argument i have been having with my self for the past couple of months, i think im going to go with the jdm b18c only because down the road i can boost it with stock internals with no problems the only really thing you can do with a b16b is all motor without completly rebuilding it

where are you getting the swap from?
Hmotorsonline is very highly recommended.
I have my b18c from HMO and it runs like a champ.
Steve should have everything you need for the swap, call him up, tell him what car you have , and he should be able to provide you with everything you need.

there is no replacement for displacement I'd say get a the B18 but then again if your into auto crossing and not drag racing then I guess the B16B is ok but if you are into drag racing even a little your gonna need some torque so go with a GSR or better

I'm in the same boat. I'm deciding on either a JDM B16A or a JDM ITR B18C to replace my stock B16A2 in my EM1. I'm planning on re-using my tranny and other stuff so I basically just need a long block and switch over some stuff from my current engine.
I'd go with a B18C, you can easily source used and good condition mounts for cheap.

You will not regret buying the b16b. The trans is great the engine is balanced and rev's to the moon. I put one in my EM1 and it's now in a hatch, although I did stroke it eventually. For a daily/ auto x and the diff in the cost I'd go b16b.

yep thats what i figured, so i've decided to go with the b16b.. now all i gotta figure out is if i can use b16a parts to tune it up with. like timing belt, water pump, cam seals, spark plugs and wires and what not.. i can't imagine if it'd make a difference.. a b16 is a b16 right??? just as long as it's dohc vtec parts should fit with each other shouldn't they?

An F20B (manual version - 900-1100) will make more power/torque than either of those motors.
Of the two...I kinda lean towards the CTR for the trans, head...but honestly you will most likely change those out and the B18C will be quicker with just a cam change vs trying to change the crank on the B16B for a 1.8L ITR crank.
If all you want is THAT power level...either motor will do and the CTR has slightly better internals/valvetrain if left stock.
I like the CTR trans/USDM ITR trans
