I haven't gotten a chance to pull the ECU yet but I did test the fuel pressure and it was between 35-40 psi.

Also, I did the spark plug test from Starting Problems...

Replaced the spark plugs today and it started with no problem, however it was still running rough and sputtering badly. Also, there was a LOT of smoke coming out of the exhaust. Way more than normal....

tamboo - Thanks for that link. It helps now since techauto is down.

scubacamper - I only use NGK. The tips on those cheap autolite plugs are too small for the plug wires causing them to pop out....

It only happened that one time, for a few seconds. I put everything back together and it started up pretty easy but still running weak, rough idle, and bucking. I haven't driven it yet.

OK, its been a few days and I haven't really been driving it, but this is what actually happened last night and what's been happening as opposed to my original post:

The cap, rotor, plugs/wires, and icm have all been replaced fairly recently. And the o2 sensor is about 16 months old. The bucking and surging seems familiar but I can't quite place it.

Well I replaced the VSS with a brand new one today and the problem hasn't gone away. Still running the same. I guess I'll have to buy another new o2 sensor and see if that works.

Ok I warmed the car up, unplugged the o2 connector, drove around for a few minutes and the issue is still there.
