Will it hurt my replacement used fuel pump if I test it by plugging it in (to the connector) and turning the key on to see if it primes?

I don't want to burn it out because its not in the tank.

Good idea. Thanks. First I'm going to try siponing it out. I have a hand pump with hose made for this. I plan to duct tape a coat hanger to the hose to run it down the filler hose to the bottom...

Use a very small drill bit and drill a hole in the lense at the bottom of the lense so that water drains out.
