3 out of 4 cylinders probably means you have a plugged injector. Since your ECU was the culprit I'd say it wasn't suppling fuel to all of the cylinders either.

The signal comes from the cluster. The older EFs that had cable clusters still put out an electrical signal for the ECU fyi.

If your VTEC pops then there is something wrong.

Ah. I'd get the conversion harness or wire up a 3-pin IACV. Then get someone to plug in and reset the code and your made.
