Re: Shortening an 8.8?

How much do you need to narrow it? The passanger side axle is about 3" shorter than the driver side. You can narrow the driver side by 3" and use another passenger side axle. This is probably the...

Re: need tungsten, which should i buy?

I have always used 3/32" red (2% thoriated) tungsten. I don't recall ever using anything else.

Re: 220v and breaker size for 180sd

Why would he need 6-3 wire? He's not installing a sub panel. 6-3 has three power wires plus the ground. It's used for three phase stuff or an oven/range or running a sub panel, where you need to have...

Re: Post pictures of your collector jigs.

What's the point of these technical drawings? Nothing useful can be retrieved from them.

Re: where to get bolts cad or zinc plated?

I use Metco Metal Finishing in Phoenix, AZ. I haven't had any issues with them. A lot of big companies use them, as I've seen large batches of Wilwood and Baer brake rotors and their plant.

Re: tig welding 1mm aluminum with HTP tig machine

The tungsten is going to ball up regardless. It'll just be a much smaller ball.

How far should the tungsten stick out of the cup? Take the inside diameter of the cup and divide it by two. That's...

Re: tig welding 1mm aluminum with HTP tig machine

You don't need a fancy sharpener to sharpen your tungstens. I use a 6" bench grinder to sharpen my tungstens. It's dedicated to grinding tungsten only. If you grind anything else with it, let's say...

Re: tig welding 1mm aluminum with HTP tig machine

What is your AC balance set at? Lower it down to 10%. What you're welding is really thin, you really only need a maximum of 30-40 amps to weld it. I use a red (2% thoriated) 3/32" tungsten on...

Re: Who can make me a 1/4" Divided T4 Inlet Flange?

I wish I had seen this earlier. I had a 4'x8' sheet of 1/4" steel water jetted today. I could have thrown that in there. If you couldn't find anything by next week, let me know. I get stuff water...

Re: Solar Flux

Thanks for the replies! :)

Wouldn't wire wheeling the joing take the flux off?

My friend (truck's owner) is buying 304 stainless. I can show you the results on 304, but not 409.

Re: Best settings for harbor frieght mig welder?!!!!

You need to make a row of tacks, not weld a seam. Tack, skip an inch, tack, skip an inch and so forth. Then come back and fill the space between the tacks in a similar manner until the seam is...

Re: need help, new welder issues

The 1/8" tungsten should be good to about 300 amps, so that's not your issue. Turn your balance all the way up. Make sure you have proper gas flow. Also, how do you sharpen your tungsten? You might...

Re: need help, new welder issues

Make sure you have the welder on AC when you're doing aluminum. What size tungsten do you have and what is your amperage? What thickness aluminum are you trying to weld? It seems to me that you are...

Solar Flux

Hi,

Has anybody used this stuff? I'm making a 5" exhuast out of 16 gauge SS for a diesel truck and I would prefer not to back purge the whole thing up with argon.

I looked on Solar Flux's...

Re: 240sx Frame Rail

Is it fully boxed now? Regardless, it will be pretty difficult to put dimples on that. You should have done that before it was welded.

The welds look like they will hold! ;)

Re: Recomendations for a bead blaster??

Walnut shell is too fine to remove rust and paint effectively. Most of the low grit media are going to be toxic one way or another. I used play sand because it was $4 for 50 lbs. You'll be fine as...

Re: Exhaust turbine housing alloy, ok to weld?

Where can you buy Ni-55 or Ni-99 TIG filler rods? I can't find them anywhere! The best I could find was nickel electrodes (for stick welding). I can technically use them if I knock the flux off, but...

I have that one. I used it to clean a rusty axle, and it worked perfectly. It's very cheap and works pretty good, but it uses...
