Re: Myth busted or plausible: stock ls/vtec with valve clearance issues?

The valve reliefs on the intake side of LS pistons are smaller than the intake valves in a vtec head. This is not an issue unless you have cams with significantly more lift that of stock. Claying the...

Re: Blown motor/Hole in piston

Thank you! Tune had nothing to do with it. One of you valves broke or one of your valve cotters mysteriously popped out some how. This is assuming something weird didn't go on with your timing belt...

Re: What block will work for me

the deck height of a B16b block is the same as the B18/B20, so no, unless you wanted to buy new rods and crank

Re: please identify turbo + hp rateing

Kinda looks like an eBay turbo to me, cant tell from the pictures. it has a .50 A/R compressor housing which is referred to as a T04B. The compressor wheel is either a 50, 54, or 57 trim but you'd...

Re: input on turbo

how much power are you looking for?
Do you want fast spool or high revving power?
Do you plan on building up the motor later for more power?

Re: input on turbo

You do realize that it has a T4 turbine housing right? Your manifold would have to have a T4 flange on it for this to work.

Otherwise this is a decent turbo for the price and would probably be...

Re: fresh rebuild h22a smoke coming out pcv and dip stick

I would do a leakdown test. Just because the compression looks good doesn't mean that there couldn't be potentially 10-20% leakage in any given cylinder

Re: B-series engine building questions

OEM b-series bearings also go by color and can be mixed and matched to achieve proper clearances across the mains and rods. As for as the ring gap I would think you would want to be somewhere around...

Re: do these look like 9:1 pistons?

most off the shelf flat top pistons will be 9:1 in a b16a block and just under 10:1 in a B18a/b/c block. Keep in mind the combustion chambers in the head will make a slight difference also.

generally speaking, the upper side of the OEM bearing clearance speciifications is what I aim for. On a D series I believe it would be around .013-.014" or so (not 100%, thats off the top of my head)
