I live at 8,500ft and would like to cross a pass that is up at 12,000ft. This is not an everyday thing, and the speed limit is low on the road...

Well if your going to paint it, just get a sheet of fiberglass or aluminum. The weight difference would be less than a pound at most, and you can make that up by taking a shit before the races....
