Unless you are going to race solo I a SA helmet is not requiered, you are able to use M rated helmets for autocrossing(soloII).

Be careful what you get, if you get a 88 trans you will also need the 88 flywheel you may want to check on the clutch too. I was told that the 88 are a little different then the 89-91.
