Re: (mtber)
hmm.. What engine do you want? I'd be patient and save up enough for the swap I'd want. I'd go B18C1. Think about what your future plans/mods are for the motor. Good luck.

Perfect answer............plus you dont want to dump a fraction of your budget money for someone else to do it, here: Its a link that B18C5-EH2(TOM) made...very informative

With that, I would get the B18C, install it myself/with a friend, a save the extra money seeing as how things will more than likely need to be replaced other than just timing belt, water pump, and the stuff that you want to change before you do the swap.

Re: best swap for a budget
i think for the money, a ls swap is good. It all depends on what you are going for though. Some people live by b16's, myself personally, id rather have a ls motor.

Very good point because if you do not have the money for a B18C and do not want a B16a, you can instead save alot of money and run the ls. Then in the future you can slap a vtec head and have the best of both worlds! Just better research and become knowledgable on those frankensteins because they can be tricky. But PLEASE do not tell me they are not reliable because unless you have experienced one or owned one personally, then you are just going off what every one else says. Just ask "For Hybrids" on here, his has been running strong for 2 years now I feel like i live by this remark, "Its all about choice"
Do the research then you decide

Re: best swap for a budget (POS Hatchback)
well being that Im throwin a BIG chunk of change into buying a house later this year Ive narrowed it down to either a B16a or B18b, either one getting a decent rebuild

ORRR should I skip the rebuilt motor and just pickup an ITR swap and call it a day?

Re: best swap for a budget (POS Hatchback)
If you're going to be leaving it relatively stock...get a b18b over a b16. I LOVED mine.
But if you can afford it I'm gonna have to vote C5
