Stupid question about upper ball joint
Alright...so...my upper ball joints DEFINITELY need to be replaced, they boots on both are slashed open REAL good, and when i jack the lower control arm up and put a hand on top and one under the tire, i can mofe it back and forth and can see the upper joints move. So....they are definitely toast...but i wont have the cash to get new control arms till next monday.
They have DEFINITELY been jacked up for awhile...ive always heard a clunk in turns and going over bumps since i bought the car, but just thought it was my missing sway bar links (being fixed next week too) but....apparently i was wrong... SO, onto the outrageously stupid question =D Can i make it for the next week with these joints, and what can i do to help them survive the next few days?
I also noticed a tear in my lower ball joint boot...but its really small and i'm not feeling any movement in it....can i just replace the boot?

Re: Stupid question about upper ball joint
I think you should be ok for a week or so, just watch the "spirited" driving. I would be interested to see what others have done in this situation (aftermarket, factory etc etc) as mine too are starting to show signs of age.

Re: Stupid question about upper ball joint
what model year? im thinking your gonna have to buy the whole upper control arm. and might have to check for some compatibility with the lower ball joint. different models fit preludes.

I would never drive on those ball-joints. If you have to then you are just taking chances, not much you can really do if they already have play in them.

Re: Stupid question about upper ball joint
from the factory just about every Honda and Acura has an upper control arm assembly, so just a ball joint from the dealer is out of the question for sure. As far as aftermarket replacement ball joints? IDK most of the time when you take the cheap road you get what you pay for. I'm pretty sure there is one company out there who makes some nice aftermarket upper control arms but I can't think of the name right now, I just got done dealing with parts all day so maybe somebody else can chime in.

I don't know about the 1st-3rd gens, but in the fourth and fifth gens they only sell a complete upper arm with new ball joint and bushings and they are less then $90 ea from Majestic Honda or Honda partsnow!.

Re: Stupid question about upper ball joint
hey sorry i didnt provide more info guys lol its a '92 Si...i bought some more grease to pack in the boot and will try to ghetto rig some duct tape on there to get it to hold the grease in for as long as possible...
I hate to ask this question too...as i'm not a fan of e-bay specials, but has anyone ever used the upper control arms from e-bay? Simmilar to this
http://cgi.ebay.com/ebaymotors/2-UPP...Q5fAccessories
I know the rule of thumb you get what you pay for...but i'm broke as a joke, and this pay check isnt gonna yield much
As a side note....the transmission adaptor for jacks from harbor freight was probably one of the biggest wastes of money for me yet
Thanks for all the help guys and gals =D
