Default manual trans question.

I have a n/a prelude 92/h22a1 5speed. my trans synchros are worn out and wonder if my m2s4 manual trans is a good trans worth rebuilding and if so is the synchro easy to rebuild?

you dont need to rebuild just take it to a shop and have them change out the synchros and forks and check you clutch and flywheel if its still good. or if you have money go ahead and rebuild so no more problems for 50k plus miles.

The gear ratios are a tad longer than M2F4. You might like it!

Im very mechanically inclined, but not very familiar with transmissions, does the trans have to come out to replaced the syncro?

^ 99 Percent of the time it's Yes. Downtime is to be expected. How do you like that longed geared tranny on your h22 motor ? Too long IYO or just right ?

Not sure if you're asking me or the originator of this thread. If you're asking me, I LOVE IT! It changed the whole attitude if the car. Its superfast. I have talked to a couple of other guys who have longer geared trannys in thier H swapped hondas and they feel the same. The naysayers think this trans is a dog. Maybe the lighter chassis makes the difference. I am currently doing a Auto to 5 spd swap on a 99 Prelude. The customer requested an F22 trans. (He commutes between Santa Fe and Albuquerque-120 mile round trip) When Im done with the project, I will fill you in on the pros/cons.

This is my recent experience with my manual tranny in my 95 Civic. The 4th to 5th sync. went out at about the same time one of the bearing got too loud to continue. The bearing kit was about 260, the sync's were listed for 130. and misc. seals and small parts were another 50. The shops in my area wanted 600 for a rebuild if I brought them the tranny. I bought another supposedly low miliage tranny from one of the Japan importers for 290 plus shipping........I installed it myself and think that was the better move for me......

I found a m2l5 f22 5 speed for dirt cheap with 80k miles. would that tranny fit on my jdm h22 and if so why are the clutches different from the h23 5 speed and the f22 5 speed.

Good to hear, most people just turn away from this long geared tranny because of the fear of dropping out of VTEC between shifts. This happends ofcourse, but the customer has to understand that car has to be dyno-tuned in order to drop the VTEC engagement point a little among other things.

I'm using the F22 M2L5 tranny on my current h23-Vtec build, will turn key to start next week, almost done.

I called autozone and the f22 tranny's clutch is 160 and the h23's clutch is 201 but they have the same spline count.

I dunno I went from an M2S4 to a T2W4 and the acceleration is better in every way and the 5th gear is the same so highway mileage and top speed aren't affected. If you guys are so all about this tranny maybe I can sell it, just been sitting in the corner of my dad's shop.

Customer was happy. I converted the car to OBD1, Had it tuned with 4600 VTEC. Stays in VTEC with 8000 rpm shift. On my car, The T2W4 was sick at the track! Sucked on the interstate though. 3rd and 4th ratios are too far away for a decent high speed downshift. My car is a DD with a 60 mile commute. No one can touch me on the interstate here. I recently ran H22 integra and detsroyed it.

Stop yelling

You can use any manual transmission from an accord or prelude except on from an SH, gearing makes a big difference in how the car performs and an accord trans is not geared for performance.
