I just had some extensive work done to my engine.....port polish....new dual valve springs...alluminum retainers......polished valves....cleaned pistons...port matched intake manifold.......well...it is all pretty much worthless now.......

I heard my mechanic say it needs a "breakin period"...do not run it hard for about a week then come back and valves adjusted.

Well I ran it hard being late for work....not valves are bent....I also think I punctured a piston.

here is the questions.....can I simply replace the valves...and the piston(if it is damaged)? Or do I have to send my head to the machine shop?

Mind you have not seen it first hadn this what I got from the mechanic. My mechanic just polished the stock valves(keeps carbon off of them)

A hard break in is actually highly reccomended for new engines to produce more power once it's done being broken in.

What do you mean a hard breakin...run it hard for a minute then let it "rest"?

Thanks but I really screwed up...I push it to 110...slowed down shortly afterwards but I did someone egging me on......anyway when the engine failure happened I was doing a steady pace of 70. Does anyone know if have to send it to the machine shop....or could just simply replce the valves.

No, no one knows because we don't have the engine here in front of us. You'll have to take it apart and actually try looking at it or have someone else look at it to see the extent of the damage. In your case, I'd take it to a machine shop for sure...

Thanks...I think I will do that...rather be safe then sorry...besides gives me an excuse to buy new valves anyway(trying to look at the bright side). I will post some pictures though

I don't necessarily agree with this 100%. I believe engines should be broken in the way that they are driven. If it's a race motor, then I can justify beating on it. That's how all of the big boys do it with their race engines.

If it's a daily driver then I recommend baby it for a while for 500-1000 miles. I've always done it this way and I've always had magnificent results.
