Default Keyless Entry FOB for 5th Gen

Quick question... Do all 5th gens come with a keyless entry remote?

I have a 97, and I didn't get one with it, I know other years have them, just curious if my 97 should have!

Also if i get one off ebay or something from an accord or something, can it be programmed to work with my prelude?

Thanks!

Obviously it can be installed on your car

Yes, they can be reprogrammed, atleast that's what the guy at the Honda service department told me.

Are ******* serious??? you think!!! read the post again, but this time use your little head...

I just bought the damn car and it didn't come with one ... i know newer years have it, but maybe, just maybe, its possible that it was introduced at a later year. But then again THATS MY ******* QUESTION!

All i wanted to know is if 97s ludes are supposed to come with a FOB, i know how they work i know i can get them programmed, etc.. I just wanna know if my car is supposed to have one or not.

Furthermore, i also asked if a fob from an accord or a civic or any other honda will work on the prelude. My instancts says yes, but forgive me for checking!

Next time keep your stupid infantile potato comments to your self!

Thank you to anyone who replyed who may have used there brain instead of their *** when reading the post!

WHOA! Calm down BinLaden

You asked a very stupid untechnical question. You got a stupid answer. You didnt need to go rag doll and get your ***** twisted.

You could have very easily not depended on everyone else and clicked the little feature we call search on this site. Find you own info

OH WELL! YOUR ******* CANADIAN! Sign a peace treaty

EDIT: And you even stole the name of a very popular member you had that name because he had a supercharged GSR, but got an S2k, so now his name is S2-Raw, so if you get any pms, thats why. Its not because youre canadian and better than everyone

Whoa gear down there Tyson......

actually i just sold my GSR, so thats why i had the name. Great that some guy had it too, good for him. The way i came up with it is stupid and it has to do with Eddie Murphy actually, but that has nothing to do with it.

As far as your being patriotic.... good for you! I didn't bring it up, you did. My question is on topic.... you try a search for "what year honda released keyless entry in preludes" come on now!!! I just asked a simple question and wanted a simple response.

Buddy over there started assuming things all by himself, and if you read my reply its just sarcastic. not really any more mean then he is....

And bud you really should not be throwing the name of a murderer around like a joke, its just so disrespectful on so many levels!!! Alot of people have probably lost family because of that whole thing (my self included) and don't need you throwing it back in our faces. thats my 2 cents.

But really I'm not being a jerk here, i asked a question which was answered by insulting me. Just answer the question and keep it relevent!

So.... a simple answer please.

Most likely it will have been available but wether it was an optional extra I don't know.

I know that the 1991 JDM NSX and the 1992 JDM Prelude (which both share the odd part here and there) had the same keyless entry remote where the button is ON THE KEY! and it is completely sealed, theres is no way to access the battery cell! It charges itself up from the Ignition barrel! This was early 90's technology that was never released over here or the US. but I am aware that this came as standard on the 4G-VTEC's. As for the 5th Gen like I say Im not too sure, your probly best asking a load of 5G'ers. Here's a Pic of My JDM 4G's Key...

dude, lighten up....

As long as your car still has the "Keyless Brain" installed on your car you can program another remote to it.

I have done this with other remotes that were given to me.

Anyways as far as your question goes whether or not you can use a Accord or Civic one I am not sure.... if you know someone who has one Key FOB that came with their Prelude, take a note at the back for the FCC ID numbers, a replacement remote should be similar for it to work properly.

There is a certain procedure that you have to go thru to program the remote with your Keyless brain, involves the Ignition key and pressing buttons on the remote, I forgot the exact steps for it , but if you ask around or search you might find that answer.

And dude, even though there are other ****** and smart-asses online, you don't need to Flame back at them, you're only encouraging them more.

heheh... mashed potatos.... hehe....

thanks for those replies, they are appreciated.

You said that as long as my car still has the brain I'll be fine. Makes perfect sense to me, i just don't know if my car has a brain or not.

If I try to get one from ebay it usually says 98+ honda accords, so i dunno. Not all the time though. So it makes me wonder whether honda introduced it here in 98.

checking the back of the fob is a good idea, my buddy sold his 99, so it would be great if someone could actually do that for me, if the have their keys handy.

I'm really not new to this, I have a low count b/c I usually keep my mouth shut, and only ask questions .... caught me in a bad mood i guess.

Thanks again!

Thanks, If you want a key like this then you'd better fly over to a breakers yard in Japan!

I bet your key (US NSX style key) is like the UK NSX key, just a piece of metal yeah? no plastic?

Gs-RAW; what about an aftermarket keyless entry system, they're not that expensive and you dont even need the servo's just the control box/reciever and wire it into the lock control switch (if 5Gs have a lock/unlock button like 4g's have)

yeah i could buy an aftermarket alarm... but i'd rather know if my car was supposed to have the fob or not.

If it was its only gonna cost like 20-25 dollars on ebay, and thats it.

An alarm will cost alot more, I dunno I guess i really wanna know if I'm missing something or not!

Ok well I expect the 5G lockibg system is pretty similar to the 4g's. It has a lock controller box inside the drivers side door (right hand side on my jdm lude.) the passenger door as I recall doesnt have one. The controler box is equipped with a reciever. This reciever is quite basic, just sends a radiowave over at a set wave and if the lock controller box recieves it then It will unlock/lock the doors.

The question is 'do you have a electronic switch in the interior of your 5G to lock/unlock your doors?

If you have then this tells us that the car Does have the actuators (little motor attached to the locking mechanism; it locks/unlocks the door replicating manual operation).
Having this box also tells me (Im 99% sure, I will try findout) that it can be used with factory fob that was made for that year car.

The keyless entry system was added in '99.

I have a '98 SH and I purchased the Honda alarm system and now I have the key fob that you are looking for.

'97-'98 didn't have it, but you can add the Honda alarm system to get it.

perfect..... thanks for that answer

Now here's another question, how did you purchase the alarm?

Did you buy the whole thing from honda??

Plus could you please post the numbers on the back of the fob, so i can buy one and program it

Thanks again!

You should be able to buy it here:

http://www.hondaautomotiveparts.com/

I buy most of my Honda parts here.

They will have all the part numbers you need. Call them if you have questions.
