h22a4 acl bearings large or small main bearings?
I'm building a h22a4 engine with eagle rods and cp pistons with standard bore size and my question is what kind of bearings do I need.
I see that ACL makes two different kinds of bearings set. One says ACL bearings set with small main bearings only(approximately 50mm i.d.) and the other is ACL bearings set with large main bearings only(approximately 55mm .i.d.).
I'm not sure wich one I have to use, this is for turbo aplication for about 550 or 600whp.

In my experience ACL bearings are crap b/c most of them are recoated used bearings that end up tapered and way out of round, thrust washer clearance problems and they only have grooves on one side of the thrust washers, which I have a big thing on lubrication especially in a vtec engine where oil pressure must be optimum

not necessarily... 97 h22a4 has 50mm as well as all 92-96 h-series 98-01 a4's are 50mm

recoated used bearings? what? I've used ACL's several times and seen nothing of the sort. And why do you need oil grooves on the backside of your thrust washers?

just a quick fix for searchers later, the 98-01 has 55mm mains

Re: h22a4 acl bearings large or small main bearings? (prelittlelude)
If you wanna get technical if there were grooves on the back side of the thrust washer the bearings would be a lot cooler. Ive had grooves machined into them before. This is supposed to be a website for people to discuss problems and get help but cocky ppl always turns it into an argument. Jesus

you are retarded, do you realize what you posted?
recoated used bearings? wtf.
how are the bearings going to be cooler by putting grooves in the thrust washers? the only purpose to the thrust washers are to keep the crank from shifting.
