DIY wideband controller
Has anyone done one of these?

Im pretty sure my soldering skill are up to it. I'm just wondering if they actually work.
$30 in electrical parts (most of which I can probrably get for free as "samples") is WAY better than $350++ for a prebuilt controller. And this would save me like 4 years of my life trying to design my own controller.
I'd also like to hook it up to a general purpose data logger to save myself some dyno tuning bucks.

I've been very interested in doing this, also; just haven't had the time or funds to get around to it. Also, how hard is it to use a datalogger to record info? I've thought about getting an automotive one, but it doesn't look like there's a huge selection.

it doesnt cost very much at all. look at the parts link.

the most expensive part is the O2 sensor, which youd have to buy anyway. $42.50 for everything except the kit is not that pad, especially since most of this stuff can be had by calling an electronics wholesale parts vendor and asking for sample parts.
and the datalogger that I linked to is the cheapest thing that ive found. its a much more inexpensive option than getting a datalogging system made for a prebuilt o2 kit.
this one basically can record like 4 different voltage outputs at a set interval simultaeously. so you can basically record your RPM vs. o2 Vout, convert the Vout to A/F using the graph and look at it like a dyno plot....except its not in graph form and no HP numbers.
if you wanna get something more "user friendly" you can buy a Techedge or something with a datalogger output and hook it to your laptop with THEIR software and look at your graph.

we actually just bought the kit and finished it. (it's going in an rx-7 tho) if it works I'm gunna get one and put it in the lude. i'll let you guys know how it works later this week prolly.

I wouldn't bother with any kit that uses the L1H1 sensor anymore. Those sensors are getting far too expensive and hard to find. The new techedge and the new AEM will be using the LSU4 sensor, which is much easier to find. I just received my sensor from the VW parts source for $40.00. I currently have an FJO with L1H1 sensor, but I want a dedicated wb for my track car, so I'll be getting the TechEdge V2 when it's available.
