Hey Guys,

i have a problem with my 4gen Prelude.
My idle is going from 1100 to 2100 RPM all the time and i have higher fuel consumption

when i searched for the issue by spraying with brake cleaner on every tube and stuff, i figured out when i spray on my left injector the engine almost dies..
so my first thought was: the injector is leaky...
so i ordered new sealing ring injectors and cushion rings for all my injectors. (unfortunately i couldnt order them from the US cause the Amazon shop isn't shipping to Germany. so i went to my local honda dealer and ordered them.)

nothing changed after replacing the sealings. :'(
so i thought the injector is just broken.
i tried it with another injector but the problem was still there...

i have no clue what may be the problem...

I'm guessing the vacumn leak is coming from the intake manifold.

What engine do you have? I have a F22B DOHC and mine had a similar problem. Thought it was my vacuum pipes, seals etc. Eventually I found the problem. It was the Idling unit (if I named it properly) it comes from the factory pre-set. Due to age and vibrations it actually came loose, so I screwed it back in a till I was satisfied that the idling sounded fine. I will see if I can get a pic of the unit.

@Northernlightz do you think theres a hairline crack in the intake manifold?

@EFJ my engine is the F20A4 DOHC. yeah i also checked the vacuum pipes but they are fine. I was sure i needed new sealings but unfortunately it's another issue

But still, why does my engine almost die when i spray brake cleaner on my left injector? ( the injector is installed properly and stuff )
the problem doesn't occur by spraying on the other 3 injectors.

Also there is a bit oil after i removed the injector. theres also a bit of oil in the spark plug.

Hope you find the problem. Like I said I opened my Idling Control System and found that it had a large plastic set screw/washer that was completely loose. Adjusted it and all is ok. My symptoms was exactly the same, checked everything, changed seal etc. and at the end it was the ICS. I will see if I can take a pic of it and open it to show you what I am referring to. As for oil around the plug it can cause it to smoke a bit or even cause a dead plug (then the car will miss the whole time).

No it's not cracked. It would leak from the gasket. Unless the injector isn't seated properly, I don't see where else it would let air in, in that area of direct spray. Again, this only a guess. Good luck.

Btw, your engine is a SOHC.

Hey again Guys,

sorry for the late reply, i have been busy a bit but i removed the FITV and IACV to clean them. unfortunately i still have my idling problems (
the IACV had some screws, i couldn't open. i need special tool but i don't even know what it's called.
the screws from the FITV weren't loose and it was not that much dirty. I cleaned it, reinstalled everything but my RPM still jumps from 1100-2100..

also i figured out theres a seal missing on my IACV, but i took my friend lude's sealing and tried if my RPM still bounces and it did...

@EFJ what's the ICS? i couldn't find anything in the internet ( it shows me some car wash all the time )

@Northernlights do you mean the valve cover gasket ?
yeah its sohc sorry, i mixed it

The ICS is what you were holding in the 3rd pic with the large yellow screw/plug an spring plunger. When you opened the cap was the screw/plug loose?

Your IACV, in the last picture, may be faulty. If you can swap it with your friends to test, it will tell you that much.

Does the car still die after the new injector seals, when you spray cleaner on it?

Ohh... My ICS was a slightly loose, i tightened it and then did 1 turn and loosen it.
but i still have the problem

Thanks Snobordboy, yesterday i also tried his IACV and nothing changed, and yeah my car still dies after replacing the seals

by spraying cleaner on the injector, it kinda dropped / jumped to the gasket between the head and intake manifold! fml....

the injector seals were never the problem
i hope by changing the intake manifold gasket the problem will be solved

No, not the valve cover gasket. I mentioned before that it could be the intake manifold gasket. Might as well change the valve cover gasket too. That spray will deteriorate rubber.

Ah yeah, if there is a leak at the intake manifold gasket that will give you all kinds of issues.

shiiiiit.... my goshh... thanks guys for the help! and yeah @Northernlightz yeah, you told me very early it could be the gasket, but i thought u were talking about the valve cover. but theres no connection to the intake manifold so it can't be it. i still change it tho, i will order this and the intake manifold gasket today.

i already spent 70 USD for the injector seals... 8 seals for 70 dollars... i couldnt order them from the US, so i ordered them at my local honda dealer.. i'm living in Germany btw and it's not that easy getting stuff for my Lude and Crx :'(
