TPS Problem: 2003 CRV EX MT
My son has a 2003 Cr-V 5dr EX (VIN number: SHSRD77863U133019).
His Cr-V gets 15 mpg.
A couple month's ago he got CEL (P0122 code) indicating Throttle Position Sensor. We saw the TPS being sold by various EBAY sellers in two styles so we ordered one after using their tool to "verify" it would fit/work on our 2003 CRV.
We removed the throttle body and dremeled screw driver slots in the TPS screws so it could be removed. When installing the replacement TPS, the sensor only turned counter-clockwise while the OEM TPS turns CLOCKWISE from rest. So all we could do was reinstall the original TPS.
CRV seemed to run well after this "no change" replacement, no Codes found through OBD2 interface.
4-5 months pass and I'm visiting son in Richmond and I notice his car idle stays very high when clutch engaged and slowing to stop. 1500-1800 rpm.
Once the car is completely stopped , the idle drops down.
Mileage is 15 mpg.
Yesterday he got a CEL. I've asked him to attach the OBD2 to find the code.
[I'm querying EBAY sellers with the specific VIN asking if they have a TPS to work on it.]
Is there a TPS vendor/product that does really work on the 2003 CRV?
What years Throttle Body fits this car? -- so I can search car-part.com for a replacement if we have to go that route. What year TBs can we use to replace it?
What other things can I check to improve gas mileage?
THanks very much for your thoughts.
