Default 2000 CRV, Replace bulb behind fan control

It's very dim and light between fan control **** and temperature control now are dim............How do you get behind there to change out the bulbs.

The radio is on the top and inbetween that is a tray that pulls out and then the ***** are below that , that I need to get behind............please tell me I don't have to take out the radio just to get to that.

Thanks

You get the heater control out you need to remover the whole bottom of the dash. The glove box, under steering column, cup holders (automatic) shifter cover (standard) and the piece above that. The radio/header control unit is bolted into the dash.

I found this video on youtube last night.........does this look right. The guy sure did take out alot of screws to get in there.

Does anyone know if most of all the screws are the same size or are they all different sizes so I have to keep track of what I am taking out from where.

Also the light bulbs I would like to have before opening it up so I can put them right back in.

Anyone know what sizes or kind there are ?

Would advanceauto shop have them in stock or would I have to go strictly to honda to get replacements.

Honda closes early on Saturday's and closed on Sunday's. I don't want to tackle this job if I can't complete it the same day I tear it apart.

There are two bulbs. Here's how you do it.

The video posted above is correct. You need to remove the center stack bezel that contains your stereo as the fan control bolts into that. Technically, only two bolts hold that in place against the IP structure, but you have to remove the glove box and driver's kick panel in order to remove the lower portion of the center stack just to get access to these bolts. As such, follow the steps you'd take if you were replacing your stereo -- there are tons of videos and instructions for this floating around the Web in case you're not sure on how to do this.

Once you have that bezel assembly slid out from the dash, there are two (or maybe three) screws that hold the climate control assembly in place.

Look at the top of the unit pictured below. See those two round plugs with a slot in them? See how they look like the bulb holders in other, smaller Honda OEM switches? It's because they're bulb holders for the backlighting here. Take a flat-blade screw driver, twist counter clockwise, and remove them.

These are NOT parts you are likely to find at your local chain auto parts place. You might be able to find replacements at Radio Shack or an electronics part supply store...but I don't happen to know the voltage/amperage/wattage specs for these bulbs.

You could fetch them from a Honda dealer, but a cheaper option would be to pick up a set of 2 for $8 on ebay, especially since they're already seated in the bulb holders.

Hope this helps.

Called 3 Honda Dealers, none of them had the bulbs in stock...............Decided to to go to radio shack and just pick up some bulbs and use the old bulb holders.

These are the one I used.

Couple bucks for 2 bulbs

http://www.radioshack.com/product/in...ductId=2103780

Came home replaced the bulbs in the holders and buttoned everything back up in about 10 minutes.

Everything seems to be working great now!

Thanks for everyones help.

While you have it apart, drill like a 3/4" hole, on each side of the console, one above each of the two bolt heads.. then put it back together, and plug the holes with some grey Caplugs. Next time, you can have the radio out in 5 min.

ETA: Hey OP, how hard would it be to rig up a couple of LEDs on those old lamp bases? Or maybe just soldered right to the sockets? Just keep the power (current) down, and you won't ever have to worry about those burning out again.

Funny you should say that:..........after I put it back together I thought how dumb am I??? Why didn't I just leave out those 2 silver hex screws on the side of the console. Really the clips would hold in in place good enough.

You know the radio/heater just pop in with those clips, only problem is you really need your hand up underneather to pull off the electrical connections off the back of the radio and heater climate control. Just not enough room to get to the back of the set to take them off otherwise.

Can't really soder to anything, the bulb holders are plastic..........if these 2 lights last as long as the first one did, we should be good for another 110,000 miles.

Really isn't that bad, I can take it all apart in under 20 minutes.

An idea I wish I thought of, especially since I have to rip the M/T console out of mine. Oh well. Next time I dig into the dash, maybe I'll do this...

Trouble still is reaching behind to unplug and plug the wire connections back out and in. I needed to reach my hands in from the under the back. But I guess from watching the guy in the you tube video it can be done from the front.
