Default starting problem on 90 hatch.

When I go to start the car it turns over, but as soon as I let go of the key it turns off. If I hold the key in the "start" position the car will run.. But as soon as I let the key go and it returns to the "on" position the engine cuts out.
What's the deal??
I replaced my starter last year and when I did that it only had one bolt holding it in place.. So I just replaced it the same way I found it.. Could my starter just be loose? Or is it something with the ignition? thanks!

Almost sounds like a bad ignition switch.........and go to the junk yard and get yourself the other starter bolt. Hell, you could do a five finger discount for the damn bolt.

I had the same problem on my hatch. I changed the ignition switch and it kept doing it so then I went for the main relay and that's what it was...

When you release the ignition switch from ON(III) to ON(II) and the engine stalls, do the cluster warning lights remain on or are they off. If they are off, replace the ignition switch.
