Starter Problems?
My 91 accord hasn't been starting to well the last few days. Sometimes the engine would turnever but the car just wouldn't crank but if I gave it a few it would start just fine. But today I was going down the road and the car just died. So i got off to the side and tried to start it but no luck. It turns over and starts really quick but then dies. I was able to keep the car going by turning the key and holding the key when i turn it. I would let it out just enough to keep the starter from staying engaged and just hold it there and the car will stay cranked. But as soon as I let it go the car dies on me. Everything sounds smooth while im holding it, is this the starter? Also what can I do about it. Any help is appreciated!!
Its your ignition, i had to the same problem with mine a while ago. Theres an electrical part of the ignition switch thats bad, you'll have to replace this electrical part. It'll cost about $150, parts and labor. Hope this helps.
Do you remember what the part was exactly?? Would this be difficult to do w/o taking it to a garage. I usually have a couple of friends help me out with stuff like this unless it's to complicated.
well i took it to the shop and they didn't tell me exactly what it was the replaced, just that it was there was a part in the ignition that was bad. sorry i couldn't be more help.
I just changed my clutch and flywheel and rebuilt my own axles this weekend, but with a problem like yours I'd probably take it to a good mechanic. At least for an estimate. YOu could probably just replace the whole ignition/tumbler/key thing, but then you've have separate keys for doors and ignition.
