so ive decided since i blew my motor, i should use what i got laying around the house. so i decided to take the gsr head to the shop and there its currently undergoing some porting and polishing. as well as having new valvetrain put in(supertech black nitrade valves and type r springs/retainers) and cleaned up. i also picked up a b20 from a friend for 80 bucks and i will most likely take the block to the shop as well. but this is my question, should i stay stock bore on the block or go oversized on the pistons? and should i install this free block guard my friend gave me? and what does any one think about over sized valves? good or bad? my thought was it would thin out the walls and possibly warp the head faster.

Questions:

1.) Stay Stock Bore? Depends on what the bores look like. Come on we can't tell by not seeing them and even then we are not there. Take it to a shop and they will tell you if you don't know what you got or are looking at.

2.) Block Guard? Why? What is the reason you would want to? Unless you plan very high RPMs or Boost with out sleeving of course and want a cheap half *** fix, then use then don't use the block guard. If you do want to use it have the shop hand fit it then TIG weld it in then have them bore/hone the cylinders to make sure no egg shaping or distorting happened with the install. After that, have the block milled.

3.) There is almost no reason to go with oversized valves on a VTEC Honda head. They flow so well even moderate motors do not need anything done to the head period (besides the weak links like springs and such). You did not post what you are trying to build for Naturally Aspirated or Forced Induction.

and i assume you will be putting stronger components in the bottom end of the b20? because if you try to rev that stock bottom end to the gsr heads capable redline you will definitely be spilling b-series guts all over the asphalt.

this is a daily driven car that i will be putting the motor into, and hopefuly after some tuning and personal modifications, i will still get 40 mpg. this motor is all motor, and is going to be used for rpms up to and if not more than 8500. if possible in the future, if i do not change my mind about all motor and not forced induction, then possibly some nitrous.

Go 84.5mm RS Machine Type R "style" pistons, some eagle rods, Vtec oil pump, some nice bumpsticks, a nice set of injectors and get it dyno tuned (a must!!!!) and call it a day...200+ whp

oh and good luck on the 40+ mpg, let us know how that goes

uhh, the newer oil pumps are the same for the b series engines. depending on which b 20 he has, a "vtec oil pump" would be a waste of money. they use the same part number from honda/acura. http://www.team-integra.net/forum/di...TopicID=115789 i suggest doing some research...

bump sticks? i might use the h22a4 injectors(or one of the h22 injectors) because i read that they are the highest flowing injectors of all honda injectors. should i use the block guard or not? some one told me that ovaling will occur in the sleeves if i do so because of the weak sleeves on a b20. how much do the rs's cost? eagles?
should i stay stock on the water pump as well? what about bearings? stock hondas or acl's?
and has any one used type r cams with a setup like this before? heard its like a 30 to 40 horse power out the box improvement
