okay i took out my dad's deck because it was installd in my 91crx.. i took it out and i put a different deck in and now it doesnt even want to turn on! (my cigarette lighter thing does not charge any more either).. can someone help me?


cliff notes:
installed new deck
deck wont turn on
checked the wires (maybe i missed something)
cigarette lighter does not charge any more.

possible shortage? how do i fix this? please help

yeah i did. i used this one tester thingy and it said it was still good.. uhh the stereo shares the interior lights n stuff right?

mmm can someone tell me which fuse to check? cus im not sure.. not good with audio type of stuff.

There might be one for radio or cig. ligther. check both.

If you got a tester test your pos + wire and remote wire. Both should have 12v
with key on.

i only have a tester for the fuse itself and it just tells me if theres any power going thorugh it (it blinks if there is power) and if it doesn light up at all its no power.

Step 1. test your deck to see if it works.
hook up power and remote to pos and ground to ground to see if anything turn on... Make sure their is a fuse on it...

Step 2. If works
Then you have check 3 wires. You really need a test light/volt meter to see if you got power coming to the pos + and remote wire. Also make sure ground wire is good.

Step 3. If no power to either wire
Trace it back to the fuse..

it was working before i took out my dads deck.. which i had to cus he wanted it back.. and now my deck wont turn on (the deck i tried installing was in my moms car and it was working) but its not workin on my car..

check those 3 main wire... The power should turn on....
If not then you should chase those wires to make sure it's live.... And if they are, then you deck is on drug.

<U>Remote/power/ground</U>

that sounds like a fuse problem, locate your fuse box under your dash and look at the diagram on the cover. Locate the one that says stereo should be a 15amp fuse and just look at it, if the metal inside is seperated i.e. blown, go get a new fuse and you will be set. You could have grounded your power wire while installing the head unit and that will blow the fuse instantly. Also check wiring again.
