ctr cams? or skunk2 cams?
which is worth the money? i know skunk2's cost more, but they supposedly perform bette than the stock ctr's. which do you guys recommend on a basically stock b16a 90 civic si with only intake, high-flo cat, and 5zigen fireball catback 2.25" exhaust?

Are the 2001 ITR cam profiles similar to that of the CTR? I was told that by a guy at a acura parts counter...but he could be BS'n.

ctr intake cam is more aggressive than itr. itr and ctr exhaust cams are the same part number and same part...no freegin difference. just go ctr, go skunk2 if you have time to tune it and go to a dyno.

Re: ctr cams? or skunk2 cams? (HyperREV)
Why no go on the Skunk 2's? Has anyone really used them? Their dyno graph on their site looks impressive, but it also looks like a preschooler tuned the car with the type r cams they pitted it against. I myself am in the market for a set of cam, and I really am not too concerned with quarter mile, I do alot of auto-x, and was looking for something with a good powerband, so I could rev to like 9,000rpms. I don't have the chedder for Todas, or JUNs. Would the Skunks be better than CTR? I also was looking at Crower, but I haven't heard alot about them.

Honestly? I wouldn't recommend EITHER at this point.
I'd wait until you had all 3 main mods (I/H/E), an upgraded valvtrain, FPR, and ignition (maybe just damn good plugs and wires....) before even thinking of the SKunk2s. IN order to get any decent power from the Skunks, VTEC needs to be set around 6000rpms, which only leaves you 2k, compared to 3k in VTEC. (roughly) I plan on buying Skunk2 cams most likely, but first, I'll upgrade the valvetrain to be able to REDLINE @ 9000rpms, to make the most of the power....
ITR ex, CTR in setup is a good setup, but then again the VTEC should be moved up... not as severely as Skunk2, but up.
I would seriously hold off on the cam until you can upgrade the valvetrain, have I/H/E (for better flow, help them cams) possibly an Intake manifold and TB.....some fuel and ignition stuff........
But that's just me.......

man....people are dumb....why does everbody (except me) that owns a honda like to say words wrong? it's NOT "rpms" it's SIMPLY "rpm".....my goodness.....when will you people learn this? btw, skunk2 all the way......you'll get bigger gains in the long run with more tuning.

hey, you said it, not me, remember? fyi "rpm" stands for "revolutions per minute"...it doesn't make sense to say "revolutions per minutes", now does it?

Re: ctr cams? or skunk2 cams? (nawoj)
I have a Mugen program ECU with vtec set at 4500rpm, picky bastards! So the Skunk 2 wouldn't work good correct? I am upgrading the valvetran, getting CTR pistons, Skunk 2 Intake Manifold, and a 4-1 JDM header. What ignition system do you recomend? I was thinking MSD 6AL, with Blaster 2 coil. It seems to be a comon set-up. why would the vtec have to be set at 6,000? That would kill my midrange. would CTR pistons be better? I love the low vtec crossover, i just always seem to be in it though.

Re: ctr cams? or skunk2 cams? (CRXBart)
To me I think a lower vtec activation point actually loses power. You make more HP at higher RPM and CTR and ITR's have the best midrange I think. Skunk and Toda probably makes more power up top (8K RPM +) Which means you have to raise your rev limiter to maybe 9K to utilize these cams. If its for street.... I'd go CTR/ITR..

Re: ctr cams? or skunk2 cams? (CRX_VTEC)
Exactly (sorry I didn't explain this earlier ) But he hit it right on the head. THe Skunk2 cams make more power higher, as opposed to the midrange power of CTR and ITR cams. IF you plan on not going to the track very often, an djust building something decent for the street, than Type R cams are the way to go....
